Default Tyre Size Question

What is a size is a 240-660R18 tyre? I get the 240 and R18, but what is 660?

well its 25.9 inches tall.... the 660 denotes the exact diameter of the tire not side wall

That's how they measure race slicks. A 240/660-18 might be a Dunlop, but I have never seen that size. You would be much better off with a 24/64-18 Cup Car take off.

It's the size of the dunlops on the 24hr Nurburgring STi.

Explain what 24/64-18 is.

I dont' get it.... Why don't they mix and match like us? ours is so simple:

275 (mm wide)
40 (mm percent of width)
17 (inches of center hole)

???? ?????

It makes it easier to tell the difference between tires when looking only at sizes. Most slicks also have an even tread width, 200, 240, 280, etc. While most DOT tires have an odd number, 205, 245, 285, etc. Pirelli is a notable exception with slick sizes like 235/645-18.
