Default DEI Titanium Heat Wrap & Turbo Blanket Kits- Super Heat Reduction!

DEI just recently released their newest breakthrough in heat wrap technology, Titanium Heat Wrap and Turbo Blanket kits!

Titanium Wrap is the next step in controlling underhood temperatures. Able to handle 25% more heat than conventional wrap with a great new hi-tech look!

Constructed from pulverized lava rock, extruded into fibers and then woven into a tight weave gives this material titanium-like strength and toughness. This improvement in thermal protection helps reduce underhood temperatures resulting in cooler air intake for improved performance. And less heat in the engine bay means reducing the chances of “heat soak” conditions on vital underhood components, like your intercooler!

Titanium Wrap is extremely durable and capable of handling more heat than any other wrap found in the market today. Typical glass fiber wrap is rated at handling 1200 degrees F of maximum direct heat, while Design Engineering’s new Titanium Wrap, using LR Technology, is capable of handling direct continuous heat up to 1800 degrees F and radiant heat up to 2800 degrees F. And because it’s pliable, there’s no need to wet the wrap when wrapping headers or pipes as many do in order to make the wrapping process easier to manage and to get a “tight” wrap.

Available in 1” and 2” widths and 15 and 50 foot lengths, Titanium Wrap will not shrink and because of it’s material structure, it is more resistant to temperature and vibration break-down, abrasions, chemical and hot oil spills vs. glass fiber wrap. Plus DEI’s Titanium Wrap offers an added feature - a very cool carbon fiber look!

We have tried this out on our own STi and we love it! The turbo blanket kit provides everything you need for a full install, and it fits perfectly over our big 20g! We recommend going with the turbo blanket kit, extra locking ties and the 2"x50' roll of heat wrap, we call this the Full Wrap Package! We also reccommend the Cool Tube for you guys running FMIC's, as this fits perfectly over your "cool-side" pipe and helps keep that charge air from getting heated up post-intercooler. It measures 36"x14" and can be cut to size.

We also provide the adhesive Hi-Temp Silicone Coating sprays, for extra heat wrap sealing and protection, in black, aluminum or white. We also use "Cool-Tape", which is a heat reflective tape that can reflect up to 1500 degress of radiant heat. Put it on the endtanks and side of your intercooler for maximum heat protection!

Check out our full install write-up here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1841582

Here are the pics of our DEI Titanium Turbo Blanket installed on our STI, we are running a Big 20g, and it fits with no issues whatsoever, slipped right on snugly and securely. We also used most of a 20"x50' roll of Titanium heat wrap on our bellmouth donwpipe. We wrapped it down to the first hanger bracket to ensure ther heat stays out of our engine bay!

We used all 6 of our 14" SS locking ties, and then some. You may wanna get 2 packages of the locking ties to make sure you dont run out. FYI Lowes and Home Depot only carry 11" locking ties, they are NOT long enough to go around a 3" downpipe.

We used the provided safety wire to secure the blanket around the turbo and downpipe.

Wrapped to flange with Blanket

Wrapped flanges with extra Ti Wrap

The IWG arm has no interference issues and works perfectly.

Overall we are very pleased with the turbo blanket kit and the heat wrap itself. It's strong and easy to work with.

This is our Perrin TMIC completely wrapped with the Cool-Tape. It does a very noticeable job of the keeping the intercooler from getting heat soaked.

We strongly recommend going with Cool-Tape if you plan on running a TMIC. On an 80 degree night here in FL, after installing the cool-tape and driving through normal traffic and stoplights for about 30 mintues we stopped and checked out TMIC. The core was actually cool to the touch. We were amazed. Afer a similar drive the intercooler was never this cool. We were instantly sold.

Hey look, a local vendor!

Looks pretty. A few questions:
1. How long did it take to install? I have a short attention span.
2. Did you install it with the turbo in place, or wrap the turbo then install it?
3. I see wire wrapped around the DP but not the blanket, does it just sit on there or does it wire in place somehow?

1. Turbo blanket took all of 30 minutes to install.

2. We wrapped the DP prior to installation, we put the blanket on with the turbo isntalled. It is pretty easy to just slip on, the wire takes the longest amount of time. We did it both from the top and we slid under the car to secure the wire firmly.

3. The blanket has metal hooks and they are clamped into the blanket, the wire slips around the anchors and secures it to the downpipe/turbo housing.

Good questions!

You can throw me on that list for the TMIC package!

OK, one more, will it fit a stock turbo? Or is it ridiculous big? (Not sure how much larger a 20G housing is compared to a VF39/43/48.)

You should be able to fit it on your stock housing with no problem. You can snug it down with the supplied safety wire to get a nice snug fit and make sure it doesn't go anywhere.

The advantage to having a little more material on a smaller housing is that you can either snug it down on the turbine or stretch it over the flange for even more coverage.

List updated!

Everything DEI has about this wrap says it's more durable and will last longer than the fiberglass stuff again't wear and abrasions.

I can say from personally handling it that it feels very solid and tough, and I beleive this would be better than the standard fiberglass stuff, especially the turbo blanket. Being as the turbo blanket is just layered "Titanium" fabric, and not an inner fiberglass filling with an outer reflective shell, There isn't anyhting to seperate over time. So I think it should last a good long while.

For reference this is a GT3076R Tial .82 turbine so it's smaller casting size fits very well with this blanket which DEI says is for T3 housings.
