Default Which side is bank 1?

'05 Legacy Sedan with a N/A 2.5

Keep throwing a code for the O2 sensor, Bank1 Sensor1. My scan tools shows me the car has 5 O2 sensors is that possible?

Anyone have a diagram of all the sensors locations?

Thanks

If you have a cali spec car they have 5 sensors. Bank1 Sensor1 one will be the one closest to the head on the right side (passenger side).

Cool thanks! I figured logic would dictate that the passenger side would be bank 1, but logic has fooled me before so I figured I better ask

That 5th sensor is it pre or post cat?

I think 05 is prior to PEZEV, but still Cali emission standards nonetheless

Is that PEZEV thing the reason I see some newer model subarus with this little green leaf emblem thing on them, at first I thought maybe they were hybrids.

It's actuallly PZEV, which stands for Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle

I do not think it has anything to do with the car being a hybrid, just PZEV

Your scan too is on crack, you don't have 5 O2 sensors. I just looked in the manual and checked. Unless there's a "Crazy **** from California other than SCIC" section to the manual that I don't have.

All O2 sensors on all Subarus are in Bank 1. As I understand it, you only get Bank 2 when you have a physically separate exhaust stream for each side of a block (say a V8 with separate headers and dual exhausts). At that point, Bank 1 is attached to the side with Cylinder 1 while Bank 2 is attached to Cylinder 2. Since all Subaru headers merge into one stream before the first cat, we're considered to only have a single bank.

Sensor 1 is your front O2 sensor, Sensor 2 is your rear.

Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the front O2 sensor on a Subaru.

Finally got around to getting the schematic for the exhaust system from the dealer and there are 5 O2 sensors for the car. I will scan it and post it later for the non believers. I confirmed this with one of the tech's at the dealer as well.

Then this falls under the "Crazy **** from California" clause, cause the ones around here have 2.

The car is in NY and was bought in NY. I was under the impression that the majority of cars sold in NY are built to meet Califronia emissions. Otherwise manufacturers would have to build California specific and non California cars, which would be a nightmare for them.

I am just going on what the dealer told/showed me after they entered my vin number. I have still yet to get under the car. I guess that will be the definite answer on exactly O2 sensors there are.

Actually, that already happens. You can get California-only PZEV/ULEV vehicles in Cali that aren't available here in Ohio. Once specific example I can remember is one of the Leggy NA models got something similar to TGVs in Cali but not anywhere else. Had a nice little PZEV sticker on its butt to go with it.

Anyway, post the scan for the rest of us.

Here's the exhaust page for the 49-state legal SOHC 2.5L NA 2005 engine. As you can see, two O2 sensors.

'05 2.5 Legacy's were available in both dual and single over head cam configurations. Perhaps that would explain the difference in terms of numbers of O2 sensors.
I will scan and post the schematic later tonight

In this scan you can see there are 2 pre-cat sensors, 2 post cat sensors and 1 post collector sensor. 5 total O2 sensors!

Better than me being crazy I would imagine all 2.5 DOHC subies would have the same O2 sensor configuration

Honestly, I didn't even know Subaru had made a 2.5L DOHC NA block since the late 90s.
