Default Cost to rebuild NA 2.5L

Heard some loud knocking coming from the engine on my drive home today. Discovered it was real low (barely registeribg on the stick) on oil. Just trying to get a ballpark on which kid I have to sell to (I'm gonna assume the worst here) either get rebuilt or the engine replaced? It's an 04 Impreza 2.5

Getting an engine out of a wreck will be much cheaper than building it back up.

I paid around $1,300 for the engine out of an '05 Impreza, and that only had 25,000 miles on it.

Default New engine may be the way to go.

I've got about 160,000 on this one. Have any idea of the cost to install a replacement engine straight across? And thanks for the reply.

Default Now here's an ignorant question

Will a Legacy 2.5 plug right into an Impreza? Or is it just easier to stick with a donor prez?

It dont matter as long as you stay N/A. All 2.5 blocks are the same externally. Internally tho they differ as u go semi and closed deck for turbo apps, but if you reuse ur heads, intake u hould be fine.
