Smile Tie-down points at high point..

Brainstorming once agian....
I've always wanted tie down points in the bed that are located higher up, on the rail of the bed not near the floor. Sometimes the stock tie-down points are too low for really bulky items. One would need to remove the plastic cap and bolt some tie-downs directly to the metal bed rails. I'm thinking I would like to do this soon. Never seen anyone do this, but if you have lets see it, or share you thoughts.

I've secured some things that were standing at least 4-6 feet ABOVE the roof line using the floor mounts and never had a problem.

That said, depending on how heavy the item is, I've also run nylon straps around the decorative chrome bars.

I guess what I'm saying is that I find it hard to believe the need is really there, but IF IT IS, I suspect you're on the right track.

Keep us posted.

you're also going to have several problems.

The most challenging of which being there is little metal to bolt through up top. Weak unibody ect ect.

Second, you'd then be letting water, snow and ice in there.

Third removing those rails you have to break the plastic buttons hold them on, ~$7 each.

Good luck

Default Tie downs

I had a pickup that I mounted tie downs onto on the outer upper edge of the bed. I don't have pictures, but I was able to purchase the tie downs at a local parts store. I just got a 2005 Baja Turbo and am contemplating doing the same thing with it, but it's in mint condition, and I cringe at the thought of drilling holes into it. That being said, the tie downs on my truck were worth their weight in gold.
