Default Rota quality?

I have a set of Rota Torques I bought about 4 years ago. I usually only drive on them for autox's and during the summers. This year I finally go and replace my original tires. During the balancing I'm told one of them is bent and has a bad hop. I decide to go and just buy a new one. I'm impressed after 4 years, the new one is still an exact match! All is good for 6 months. I go and have my tires rotated and balanced. Now another wheel is bent and has a hop. I'm starting to think what is happening, do these wheels only last for 4 years and about 35K miles and wear out? There's no other damage to the wheels and tires. Never been curbed or driven in harsh weather. The wheels were mounted in different locations, one was on the rear, the other on the front. I'm starting to worry that during every rotation I am going to have to replace another wheel.

Is this common with Rota's?

no

this is NOT common and bent wheels are usually due to too little pressure in the tires

It's definitely not a low pressure issue. I check it every month and maintain 34-35f/33-32r. AutoX I jack it up to 45-46f/44-42r.

Still, that shouldn't result in bent wheels. Those sorts of pressures are OEM on just about every car in America, and there aren't hundreds of millions of people running around on bent wheels.

I don't know what to tell you, jnmarshall, but Rotas should not be prone to being bent.

Wheels just don't get bent. You hit something.

If the wheel was bent, you probably would have noticed some sort of vibration before getting them balanced.

Not common at all, unless of course you hit something pretty hard (pothole, uneven surface, curb, etc..). I've never damaged a Rota Wheel and I've hit some nasty potholes, they are definitely very strong wheels. You must have hit something at the right angle to cause it to bend, I had a similar situation with a Volk Racing CE28 on my car.

Ok how about this question. Did you feel a vibration or anything? If the answer is no then that makes me wonder too things. Who was doing the work and by how much are they talking about?

I'm somewhere close to 10 sets of rotas over the years. I even accidentally launched my road going 06 WRX on coilovers and rota gforces. I've never bent a single wheel, and that's why I can vouch for them.

Any wheel can bend. It usually comes from hitting something.

Well hopefully I just have two that have gonna bad. The worse I've hit with them are cones and highspeed RR crossing. Wheel Tech. will be repairing both if they can be repaired.

Thanks for the feedback!

My original set. I only bought a single wheel to replace the first bent one.
