Default Bad Tires

My girlfriend's Ford Escape has TERRIBLE tires on it. They are down to the ware bar, totally bald and even have some dry rot going on. The vehicle has a loud hummm at interstate speeds, it sounds mechanical, but I have a curiosity if it could be caused from the horrible condition the tires are in. Do tires in this condition create excess noise other than squeaking around corners? NEW tires are coming really soon btw. Thanks

Wellll......your original question is sorta odd if:

1-The tires are crap
2-They are to be replaced
3-They sound really really old (due to the dry rot)
4-They are bald
5-They are down to the wear (not ware) bars (sorta redundant because of #4)
6-Etc.........

To answer your question, tires in that condition can cause all sorts of noise and odd behaviour.

Thanks Charlie. I don't see it being a bad question, def not one worthy of Uncle's remarks. Clearly the tires are going to be replaced no matter what the responses are to my post. I am just fearing something wrong mechanically with the vehicle, was wanting some hope even if it were false hope that tires are causing this noise!

Regardless, I think this is the 2nd time Uncle Scotty has ripped a post of mine with swearing and outright rudeness. So to you Uncle Scotty.... GFY.

I am not here to back/slam Uncle Scotty's reply. I will allow him to reply when/as he feels to.

I will say that for some of us that have been here a long time (as well as on other forums) can have a rather short fuse at times.
Maybe it's because the "question" has been asked a bazillion times, maybe it's because of the way a question was phrased when posted.

I figured it was a "bad day for Uncle" and put in close to $0.02 of my own on your question.

The tires are crap and you're placing them anyway. Right? (From your description I'd replace then as soon as friggin possible.) Well, do that and see if you still have the noise. FYI, I had some AVON M550's on my Mazda3. They got so loud I thought the same thing. CV joint bad? Wheel bearings? Nope, just really friggin loud tires.

Personally, I've found Victoracers quieter than RE-070's. Replace the rubber and stop companying. Scotty may be course, but usually he is right.

Glad you made it back home mav1c.
