Default Troubleshooting codes: P0301 and P0303

I tried searching the forums, but none of the other threads only occurred on a cold start.

As the title says, I'm throwing two error codes. The odd part is the error code only occur on a cold start, not a warm start. During the time it throws these codes it feels like there is an issue with the battery because it has problems cranking over. It literally sits and cranks for about 5-10 seconds before firing up. When it does, obviously it stumbles at first and then goes back to normal.

I checked the codes w/ my AP and they're misfires on cylinders 1 and 3.

I cleared the ECU and tried again, it fires up everytime after the initial cold start without throwing any CELs.

So following my old mechanic-ing theories I'd say there is an issue with the battery, possibly losing it's charge rather quickly and having issue on a cold start. Anyone else have any suggestions/ideas?

For now, clear it and see if it happens again in a few days. Every couple of months mine does that, and I think I just need to replace my spark plugs, as I am sure that they have never been replaced.

Also, try switching the coil packs to see if that is the issue. I would try that one myself, but the error doesn't creep up often enough to warrant it.

What mods are done to the car?

My car had hard times starting and also had misfires at cold starts. Then I got a compression/ leakdown test done and found out I had a bad motor. Does your car sound off-beat when it tries to start?

Kentrik,
This would be the 2nd time, in a row, that it has happened. I'd think if it was a wiring issue, park plug wires or coil pack, it would happen all the time - not limited to just cold starts. I already cleared it, so I'll try it again here in a bit and see if it happens again.

bhhamblin,
Engine wise, I have a 3'' TBE and I'm running Stage 2.

Normally when trying to start it sounds fine, however the passed 2 cold starts it has been off. When starting it warm it sounds perfectly fine and fires right up.

I don't think it helps any, but the first time it occurred, it did not throw a CEL. It wasn't until the second time that it decided to throw a CEL.

Shop7STi,
I'll go check that right now as I need to tighten the alt. belt anyway. I'll report back if I find anything that doesn't look right.

Edit: I removed all the ground wires I could see and lightly sanded the connectors and the points where they were connecting, tightened back up and regreased with electrical grease. I tried starting the car and it seemed to start just fine with no issues, but I'll have to let it sit overnight probably to see if it reoccurs.

dont mean to jack threads but my car does the same thing on cold start since the tune. No cels though. It seems as if its getting too much fuel and flooding a bit. I noticed john has my dw 750cc inj scaled at 738cc. I think he thought they were 740s. According to my flow sheet they actually flow 770cc @43.5psi. shouldnt my injectors be scaled closer to 750-770cc?
