I was taking care of some guests at my resort for work. The TV showed a memorial service for 9/11 to which the British gentleman promptly sighed and said "This, again?" and asked the channel to be changed. I walked right over and got in his face and gave him an ear full. How quickly we forget. ![]()

i was a freshman in hs and remember walking into class and someone said "a plane just flew into the wtc" and i told him to shut up and quit making things up. it wasn't until my teacher turned on the tv that i realized he WASN'T lying. i was dating a girl at the time whos father worked in the pentagon, but thankfully he was okay.
thanks for the tribute and pics everyone. |

guess i'm lucky i decided to check out my bro's area forum and get to read this. you all have no idea how this day affected me this year. so bad i cant talk about it and i'm not talking about emotionally either. makes me sick just thinking about how my day went. there was no one hurt and no major problems if you are all wondering. i'll leave it at that.
I was sleeping in economics class when the teacher turned on the TV and we watched every step as the day went on. coincidentally, at the time i worked at a place called New York Cleaners. it was a sad day indeed i know i will never forget. BTW, i sent a few of my students to be stationed on the USS New York earlier this year. |

I was in the Marines during 9-11, stationed in Hawaii, my home of record being NY. Felt proud to be a Marine, but so helpless being in HI. I felt guilty that I wasn't there and still do actually. When I finally went to Ground Zero, the overwhelming sadness and emptyness that I felt was echoed by the giant opening in ground.
I have since been to Iraq and Afghanistan and worked to protect our Military and our Nation from insurgency and terrorism, I can't explain the relief I have found in that. I will never forget as my commute takes me past Manhattan into Brooklyn, the Towers used to be in your face, I think about it everyday. |

I bought my Subaru WRX from Brooklyn back in 2000, even though it's listed as a 2002 model. One of the first WRXs in the Tri-state i believe. Used to hang on weekends with Mike (4or2wheels) and a few other people in the scooby club in NJ at weekends.
9/11 hit. I worked at 222 Broadway at the time. I got the ferry from Jersey City to the WFC daily and walked up Vesey St to Broadway at the time. On 9/11 I was walking up Vesey St as usual, looked up and saw a large golden color American Airlines plane, gun it's engines, veer left and hit the North tower of the WTC. I was totally shocked and stunned. I knew I'd just witnessed hundreds if not thousands of people die. A few hundreds yards away from me. I also knew that if I couldn't help, I didnt want to become part of the problem, so I headed immediately back to the ferry to JC - which was still offloading passengers going to work. People were standing around, looking at the WTC saying a small plane had hit the side. I said to a group of then, "No - I saw the plane - it was a 737 or 767 American Airlines. A fairly big plane with a lot of passengers". One woman said something like "OMG my husband was on an AA flight from Boston this morning". (I found out later that the AA flight came from Boston). I hopped back on the ferry returning to Jersey City. On the boat on the way back I watched as the Continental flight hit the WTC South Tower. Then I knew for definite it was a terrorist attack. I got back to my apartment in JC, phoned my folks back in the UK and Ireland, let them know I was safe, and from my JC apartment I watched the WTC south tower fall while I was on the phone to my brother in London. Almost immediately after that, all phones went out, because the WTC was the cellphone and international phone hub. I normally don't use the word "blessed" because I'm not religious. But that day I was blessed in a number of ways - a few mins earlier to work and the debris from the first plane would have landed on me, if I had continued into work, I would have gotten locked in when the towers fell. And I found out later that I was supposed to be a technology conference at the top of the WTC-NT that morning, that no-one survived. I still have the invite. |

Shame that they are going to be prosecuting the people who setup the attacks under US law instead of as enemy combatants. I didn't realize that our laws applied to people who attack our country...
Shame Shame Shame. Makes me even more upset that the Atty General graduated from Stuyvesant HS. ![]() -mike |

I currently work in the World Financial Center and recently had the chance to see the USS New York come up the Hudson before it docked next to the Intrepid for a couple days.
It was an impressive display as the the ships crew all stood at attention on deck. The shipped paused the moments I took pictures) and there was a gun salute from the navy which took place on the waterfront area in front of my building. Let us never forget... ![]() |

I remember seeing the memorial from my town of Whippany.
That is about 30 miles straight to ground zero and I could see those lights in the clouds from my street corner over East Hanover, Livingston, the Oranges, and Newark. I wish they still had the lights up. Thankfully I was once on the towers, back in middle school a field trip brought us to the roof. That was the only time I ever went up there. |

It's a shame we don't have 2 200 story towers in the place of the WTC in almost 10 years time...

Every year around this time reading up on the past just gives me chills throughout my body.
My part-time high school employee asks me today what I was doing during 9/11. He states he was 7 years old and was at school during the time. So I go on with my story and the emotions just come running back. It's amazing how much time has passed and now I'm telling my story to a teenager who was a child at the time. Really makes you reflect on life and the meaning of it all. On a side note, what the Port Authority and the people heading the redevelopment of the WTC site have proved what BS goes on in this country. I've lived in Manhattan for the past 10 years and they build 50 story residential buildings in less then a year. Yet, almost 10 years and nothing even close. It's a sad, sad day. |

I will never forget 9-11. My uncle works out of Edison, NJ and was scheduled to make a delivery just a few blocks from the WTC that day. Fortunately he got held up in his office that morning. So he didn't make it into the city. I'm thankful everyday that he is still around.
My thoughts go out to all those who lost someone close to them on that fateful day. Let us never forget. |

what a video, Rich, good stuff.
it does send chills in my body everytime I think of 9/11. a very tragic event. I remember being a senior in HS and then finding out the news from one of my JROTC insructors who just found out the news from our classroom phone. I was on the border between serving my country or not before then but 9/11 was the event that pushed me towards serving. It was like as if it was meant to be, as sad as that sounds that it takes such a tragic event to convince me to serve. very sorry for the people that lost their loved ones on that day. |
