Default Falls out of 5th gear

So my car doesnt like me and it falls out of 5th gear. It also grinds into 5th. When i accelerate in 5th the gear shift slowly moves back towards neutral. if i let off the gas, it falls back into neutral. if i stay accelerating it stays in gear. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a Synchro issue.. On the other hand it could almost be as simple as the shift linkage too.

My 4th did exactly that until I replaced the tranny outright. It's the synchro.

Ha, no, my tranny had more than 200,000mi on it and it was a big enough deal just to drop the thing in my garage. I don't have the skillset or the specialized tools necessary to crack open a transmission.

Yeah, unless you are very good with cars, you would need to take to a specialist. And be prepared to spend an arm and a let in labor costs.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping wouldn't be the case. I don't have the money for it.

I think a quick call to Andrewtech could result in a relatively accurate diagnoses instead of guessing and hearsay.
