Default I love starting new threads... This one is about cell phones.

I am feeling the pressure from the family to change service providers. I know there are a BUNCH of phone junkies out there in the RMIC. Let me know the deal.

Currently this is what we have through AT&T

2 Blackberry's
1 regular phone

1400 shared minutes
unlimited moble to moble
unlimited DATA
unlimited TEXT
roll over minutes

it's usually around the $200 mark give or take $30.00 depending on the month.

what does the RMIC know???

AT&T service sucks balls, I switched to it from Sprint to get an iPhone and have hated it ever since. But I love the iPhone. So, I might have to get it hacked and move to a better provider.

Unlimited data on all 3 phones? 3G data?

Time for iPhones!!!

/thread

Who is the family trying to get you to switch to? IMO it's either AT&T or T-Mobile for service. T-mobile is cheaper but doesn't have the almighty iPhone (they're who we are with right now...) Since you aren't iphone addicts, if they want you to switch to T-mobile I'd suggest getting either of the Google phones.

3G or 2G Biggie? I can hack it for you for freeeeee! I haz mad skillz, could even bring my Lappy to a meet and do it there. We have 3 hacked iphones in my family, all with T-mobile... Just sad we don't have 3G though

We were originally with AT&T/Cingular, we had no service inside our house, so we eventually gave up and switched.

Honestly, if you like AT&T's service (I've heard lots of mixed feelings about them, but you get that about all providers) I would immediately go and get 3Gs iPhones.

Start up a phone call on your way out to MMP, it will drop once or twice before you get there.

I do not want an iphone. I don't like touch screans sorry. I can't tell what I am doing on it. I prefer old school buttons That's how I roll. ATT is not the best coverage, it's not the best internet, it's not the best price.

Hey Jason my wife is a store manager for an indirect verizon store! I can see what it would cost to bring you to about where you are at?

and AT&T's contract with the iphone is up at the end of the year I believe too!!

Yup, that's one thing I am trying to get away from. I travel quite a bit. My phone doesn't work (well) at any of the launch facilities. It doesn't work (well) in most of the places I have to go.

And that means jack all because I really doubt you'll see a CDMA iPhone, which means the only other U.S. carrier they would partner with would be TMo... and TMo's 3G network would be crushed by the wave of switchers.

I've been an iPhone owner from day one. I love the damn thing but hate AT&T... but they're no better or worse than any other carrier. All the telcos suck in their own ways.

and keep in mind this is just what I've heard, so don't hold anything to me.

I get 25% off Verision, AT&T, and Sprint. That's why I am looking at those 3.

I dont' care if I cancel our plan with att Paying the cost of 525 to cancel will be made up in the savings (I hope) of moving to another service provider.

The att network esp data is swamped from iphone use. Sprints data is fastest because no one uses it. As for iphone killers we have been hearing that from every carrier for 3 yrs now and still nothing has come close. Iphone contract was 5 yrs so wherever that leaves att?

There are plenty of decent smartphones on the market. If people don't like Apple or iPhones, there are plenty of choices available ranging from Android devices to Palm's WebOS. But the G1, the Pre and all the rest were dubbed as "iPhone killers" and none of them have panned out to be. If their designers stopped worrying about riding Apple's coattails and just focused on making the best damned device possible, they'd have a shot. But as long as they focus on making an "iPhone killer" they will continue to fall short.

AT&T is upgrading their 3G network. The 4G networks are in the works, but you're not going to see that rolled out here or available in devices for a few years.

If u want cheap go sprint. Just remember there s a reason they ve lost millions of customers and have to wheel and deal to stay a float.

Most Federal agencies (I.E. DOD) use Sprint/Nextel or AT&T. Ask me how I know.

Personally, I like T-mobile. No, they don't have the LARGEST coverage area, but the areas that they DO have coverage in are quite possibly the most reliable. And their customer service is top notch. I have NEVER had a problem with them, unlike AT&T, Nextel, Cricket, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular.

Asher's right, all the carriers have their advantages and disadvantages. I just wish that T-mobile would finally flip the damn 3G switch for Utah. They've had the UMTS tower setup going on 2 years now, and still haven't enabled it. They claimed 3rd quarter this year on leaked internal memos, but no one from T-mobile has been able to confirm that. Either way, I love my G1, and android, and wireless tethering, and therefore cannot wait for my little EDGE icon to say 3G in the near future.

I also can't wait for the dyno software to finally be completed and available.

A couple of notes here, the latest independent findings came out messuring data speeds in SLC and AT&T came out number one. Also AT&T is rolling out with the "A list" feature at no charge on the 20th of this month that let's you list 5 numbers from any carrier that you can call unlimited.

iPhone + A List +Roll Over + fastest data = no brainer.
