Not sure about NAIAS or gun show. Will have to see.
I say Bar Louie over B-dubs, but then I'm also craving the dinty moore club sammich at Gatsby's.

I honestly didn't think it was that bad the times I went... it helps that we were the only people in there.

On another side note, who's interested in some evening skiing/snowboarding in the coming weeks? I retrieved all my (circa '95) ski equipment this weekend from my parents house. I may try to trade in at least the skis at Play It Again (if they'll take them) for a pair of snowboard boots. I might need a refresher on the skiing and I've never snowboarded before, so that would be fun and probably painful.

Yes! I promised Steph I would get her on the slopes this year - just need to figure out if she is going to ski or board but thats her call.
Now that the house buying is out of the way and everyone has insurance we can proceed this year with more social recklessness

I've just been sending a couple emails back and forth with some other friends discussing a weekend trip up to Harbor Springs (Nubs Nob/Boyne Highlands). I just looked and we can book a condo at Trout Creek for the 22-24th of Jan for $800. It has beds for 10 people, and then there are a couple couches and room for some air mattresses. The more we get the cheaper it gets.

Mike, my twin tips are open for borrowing if you want them. I should be getting demo bindings mounted on a second pair of skis and you're welcome to borrow those as well. Pending the size of your foot I might have some old boots you can borrow too.

yup, have to go deal with the breakin in the solstice, and bring it back.
Dtown240 will be accompanying me. retrieving the neccesities and possibly shipping back a few things.

Alternately, packing everythign into a budget truck and towing car back.

I would like to borrow those. I looked on my boots, they said 336mm on the side. I was looking at rates at the local hills today trying to figure out what's good. I made a powerpoint. Nerd.

Your feets are bigger than mine, but that's what demo bindings are for .

Don't just look at lift ticket prices when considering were to ski. Quality of the skiing experience is a big factor. Some of the ski areas have more area to ski. Mt. Brighton has few runs, few lifts, only 250 vertical feet, and they suck at making snow to cover the hill. Pine Knob and Alpine Valley are 300ft and significantly better. Mt. Holly is 350ft and has the best snow making and grooming outside of Nubs Nob. I haven't checked prices, but I'm guessing Mt. Holly charges the most.

Actually Pine Knob and Mt Holly charge the same for the most part, Mt. Holly is a bit more for the All-Day Weekend ticket. I'd been to Pine Knob quite a bit back in the day, but never Holly or Alpine. I'd be interested in trying out Mt. Holly for sures.

Here's a link to my Powerpoint presentation on Google Docs... Skiing Rates - Local and otherwise

I added a few more than just the local hills because, well, Cannonsburg is like 15 minutes from my girlfriend's mom's place and Caberfae isn't that far from there either.

not quite walk-to, but since don carlos closed we were thinking of taco night in G.P.

as for a west side meet, too cold for the subaru and too far for the escape...

Cannonsburg is a rip-off. I used to live 3 miles from it...skiied there in high school. $35 for a weekend ticket to ski a whopping 120 vertical feet is a crock of ****. I don't care what they advertise for vertical, I've ridden a mountain bike to the top if it and happened to have an altimeter/trip compy on the bike at the time. I was very .

Yes, but mykr will say no since its a bar and people can still smoke inside. IMO, Emory is more smoky than Gatsby's. But then mykr said he's hanging out with his dad, so his opinion doesn't count.

While that may be a rip for a professional skier such as yourself, that seems like the perfect inexpensive place for someone who grew up in a state that see's about 120 ft of elevation to learn how to ski/snowboard. meh... you are always
