Talking PR: Subie Gal Racing Survives Rim of the World Pro Rally

Subie Gal Racing Survives the Rim of the World ProRally/Club Rally

For Immediate Release:

Palmdale, CA- Subie Gal Racing survived a series of challenges which were encountered while contesting their 1.8L Production class Subaru Impreza at the Rim of the World Pro and Club Rally events. The car once again hung on for 3rd in the SCCA Pro Rally Production class, 3rd in both days of the ClubRally events.

"This rally is rumored to be a “car breaker”, and I saw enough broken cars to get my fill!!!” said Jamie Thomas, Subie Gal Racing Driver/Team Owner. “We took it easy Friday night, getting a feel for the roads, little did we know what challenges awaited us come Saturday afternoon!!!”

“Saturday, I lost my power steering – at the wrong time!!! I had to negotiate one of the toughest, twistiest stages of the event with pure muscle and will power – not fun. I ended up massively overworking myself and suffering from heat stroke – eventually I got the okay from the Doc to continue on with the rally – but things were very scary there for a while.” Jamie also noted, “All of this came not too long after launching the car approximately 5 feet into the air and damaging my new skid plate and losing a fog light!! Seriously rough event, and I’m very, very pleased to have made it through it more or less in one piece!”

“Things were kind of iffy there for a while,” said John Reed, Subie Gal Racing Co-Driver. “But we hung on and kept a steady pace to finish well.”

This is an event in which our service crew saved not only the car, but the rally for us. We surely would have DNF’d if it were not for Dave Clark of Dave Clark Motorsports!! Thanks Dave, sorry to make you work so hard – you are appreciated!!!

Rim of the World Pro Rally pictures/results to be posted here: http://www.rimoftheworldrally.com

Subie Gal Racing would like to extend a special thank you Peter Van Bogart of Cascade Autosport (www.cascadeautosport.com) as well as AV Sport (www.avsport.net) for assisting us in repairing our damaged wheel studs. Also thanks go out to the Andy and Julie Sharples (car #255) and their crew (Dan and Troy) for assisting in replacing our alternator. Again, we experienced an incredible display of sportsmanship shown by other competitors. Thanks guys!!!

Subie Gal Racing team thanks sponsors: Dave Clark Motorsports, DMS USA, StonGard, Smart Service, Carter Subaru, Turtle Wax, New Look Auto Body, Mongo Motorsports, Rally Performance.com, Performance Graffix.com. We would not be here without you!!!

Next event: Dryad Quest/Shytepoke SCCA Club Rally – June 15-16, Shelton WA www.nwr-scca.org

Um... is that actually a road, or did you just go off on your own climbing cliffs?

Nice job!

Thumbs up Congrats!

Big congrats... Last year you were a spectator, this year you're on the podium! You're a hero!

Nice meeting you, BTW. I was one of the geeky guys who said hello at the Del Sur turn around saturday afternoon. I had to leave to go to my neice's b-day party shortly afterwards, but I was worried your car was gonna make it after watching you take the big air on Del Sur. Hope to see ya back down here next year!

awesome stuff Jamie, how you drove that stage without PS is amazing. You guys should try driving a PS assisted car with the pump disconnected, you'll be stagered at how hard that is, it's not like driving a non PS assisted car, it's almost imposible to drive the thing.

Yet again a top result and you brought home some trophies to add to your collection. Your doing fantastic!

Higher seeding for the next event should help you with road conditions! God help em then.

I attended the Saturday Stages and enjoyed the Rally very much, great action and some excellent driving.
I do have a question concerning Open Class and Group N class cars, the Official Program says: “Both must still be street legal, registered, and insured, and powered by production-based engines.”

How is it possible that these types of cars could pass emissions standards? They sure did not sound like, or perform like registered, street legal cars!

Sound has nothing to do with Co emisions. I think you'll find they are actually well within sound legal limits too as they have to be tested proir to the event. It's when you start putting ALS on that the noise tends to increase, but all rally cars have to be 100% street legal.

The USA police would not go along with any *nudge nudge wink wink say no more* policy at all. Insurance companies wouldnt either!!!!

All the cars are legitimate vehicles under the law!

John, come off it, fer chrissakes.
Through whatever arrangement, I was following Evo's and the like on all the transit stages. You gonna try to tell me that it's street legal? No way. Is it a gray area, just like Harleys with open pipes and Novas with dump pipes? Sure thing.

Those cars are "for competiiton/off-highway use only" in the US. SCCA must have temporary permissions worked out.

ehhhh wrong...
i had to pass an emissions test w/my rally car...
and they do DB sound checks at the pro rallies...
and your car has to pass in order to compete.

if the car is SCCA legal... it has to be STREET legal..
yeah it may be a little loud... but they push the limit as much as they can... it's a rally car

rule book - learn more.

While I would agree that a number of the cars border on gray areas, just because you cannot buy it here means that it is not legal on the road.

It is perfectly legal for you to bring a car into the states for a year that is not made here. You need to take it out of the country when the year is up though, unless you want to take advantage of the 2 year clause. The problem with the 2 year clause is that you need to prove that the car was destroyed at the end of the 2nd year.
I assume this is why the Prodrive cars are not registered here is because they are imported temporarily using this.

It also isn't hard to get street legal status if you built the car yourself, which some of the Turbo AWD Mirages might fall under the category of. I have been shocked to see some the "shop built" cars that are legally registered. (BTW, I do not know what makes something a shop built car vs a modified street car)
