Default NFS: Shift

Just wanted to throw my $.02 out there. I picked it up last night for the PS3 and played it for about an hour.

I was really impressed with it. I particularly liked the cockpit view although I don't typically race in this view. The view actually flows with the inertia of the car.

I really like the idea of the Skyline 2000gt being available period let alone one of the first cars you can purchase and race.

No Cheesy storyline. Its a Gran Turismo/Forza simulator with a fun arcadey feel. Definitely worth it if you like racing games.

You can still modify cars on there what occupies a lot of my time when I am bored with racing.

yeah I still love Grid and I plan on picking up Dirt 2 as well. But NFS is trying to make their racing games viable again, and they are on the right track. NFS still has the reigns when it comes to customization. Some don't like that i do.
I am selling Dirt 1 if anyone has never played it and wants a inexpensive alternative to Dirt 2.

SICK!

Can you drive around on the map like NFS? Or is it racing only?

no map just racing. I bought it yesterday and it is pretty fun. I think the car choices are pretty good for the most part (no GR STI), but the rest is decent. Just a nice game while i wait for gt5!

I want to try it... But I haven't played a racing game that comes close to Forza 2... since Forza 2... I'm waiting for GT5 before I spend my money, save up for a nice steering wheel that way too. Toca Race Driver was one of my favorites.

For those of you who have been on track, how realistic is NFS? NFS's previous titles and Grid (and other equivalent "sim" games) have been lacking in the "sim" department. Though I did only play the Grid demo.

Is there a storyline at all to Dirt 2 or NFS? Toca was just racing, but it had a pro-racer career type story line. I think I still have the Dirt 1 demo on my PS3

NFS is very much like grid control wise, but still I would say that grid is even more realistic. It is fun, but not like forza and gt. I prefer GT in the way of those games with Forza a close 2nd. Storyline is kinda like grid too. pretty much none.

At the very least I'm sure they've removed the good old fashioned NFS way of: "floor it, and try to stay on the course, don't brake, don't stop when you hit a wall or other driver" They partially removed that with the last few I played. I remember one of my old NFS (NFS Hot Pursuit 2, I think, on the PS2) that was pretty hard near the end, until I figured out to do the above strategy.

I prefer the free drive games. Me and the kids love running around wrecking things we get bored of just racing

Sorry for the thread jack, but does anyone else feel like GT5 cars drive slow? I'm used to Forza and just bought a PS3 and GT5 Prologue and it seems like I am just creeping down the track as I play when I have the view outside of the car. It might just bee the added realism of the game. Forza is slow at the begining with the lamo cars but when things start cooking I feel like I'm hauling down the track. GT5-P gives me no such feeling. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and will definetly get GT5. The steering wheel options for the PS3 by logitech are sick!

That was just prologue though. I think gt5 is going to be amazing, I still play gt4 over any racing game. I haven't played nfs shift yet, I'm looking forward to pickin it up though

ps3 is pile of ****, from an engineering stand point. It's highly parallel, which is good on paper, but very few games or programmers for that matter can make proper use of it. So effectively the 360 is faster in 95% of real world applications.

I'm downloading shift for pc right now, I'll let you know if I like it later. I understand this nfs game was outsourced to Slightly Mad, who collaborated with SimBin on GTR2, so it doesn't appear to be made by clowns. I assume it will have an element of arcadiness (the other driving games I've played in the last 5 years are GTR, and GTR2), but that kind of seems nice.

yeah i actually just sent my brothers back for it's 3rd warranty repair. The ps3 has a normal failure rate >10% where as the 360 is rumored to be nearly 66% so 2 out of 3 consoles has failed. That's more of a poor internal design + cheap mfg issue. The 360's architecture is superior as a game machine though. This is why I PC game, bitches.

yeah i have had both and the argument goes forever. online for x box is better etc etc, I have been a lot more happy with my non freezing ps3, but i still think about doing an elite every now and then. xbox doesnt suck by any means, just drives me nuts when they freeze.

is it just me or does the drifiting horrible on this game? ive played many games with drifting and by far the hardest ones was D1 Prix and GT5 and Forza. Shift seems harder than all those and the cars spin out like crazy and its like the assist, if there is one, tries to help way to much. Unless its the cars im using, ive tried the AE86 and the Silvia and its hard as balls, unless my settings are completely out of whack. (And if anyone has tried drifting in GT5 its not easy)

Or has is it because ive gotten so good at drifting in the harder games that NFS Shift is just way to easy and im over doing it lol
