Wow...I don't know if you're going to have enough light there, Sonny.

Looks good. I also took advantage of the warmer weather to trace my Hella's problem. I think it was a wet ground. All the other connections looked good. Cleaned it up a bit and re-did the ground and it's working so far.

Put those 5Five's in the Denali...lots of light!

Not the best output pics but I finally took a couple. The projectors are the Hella EVOX-Rs from Theretrofitsource.com. They are a version of the Hella E55 with polished chrome bowls and clear lenses. I am using no-name 35 watt ballasts and Morimoto D2S capules(bulbs) in 4300k. The Hella Black Magics are wired to the factory highbeam outputs and are using 55 watt bulbs(halogen).

Either Morimoto mini version(D2S or H1) don't do distance very well. The "hotspots" seen in the photos above are all the EVOX-R projectors as the Hellas are using 55 watt bulbs and really only provide some extra fill. I plan on running 100 watt bulbs in the Black Magics since they really deserve the extra photons and are waaay under-utilized with only 55 watts.

Retro using projectors designed for HID>halogen, every time agreed. Are you running high wattage ballasts for all 4 projectors on your setup?

What about a bi-xenon setup for the stock location projectors, and retain the stock halogen highs? I know your quad retro'd but, maybe Sonny(sp?) can chime in on a bi-xenon setup. I have a set of e-46 bi-xenon's out of an M series that I need to get retro'd into my lights, maybe this summer.

A pair of Hella 500s running 100watt bulbs should be all the extra highbeam he needs if he retains his current setup. I'm interested in how those minis hold up since many on hidplanet say they don't do well above 35 watts. Of course, its very cold up there and winter is when they'd be used the most.

Thanks! These things are gigantic and a bear to get apart but I think the results are worth it. They are going on a black Forerunner and I'm sure the difference will be dramatic.

Projectors are the fxr's from theretrofitsource with e55 shrouds, phillips 85122+ bulbs on 55w ballasts and led diode halo running lights.
I'll post better pics of cutoff / of highs later tonight once it gets dark.
I'm loving these things!

This last photo of cutoff is with my car parked on ground that isn't level. More pics of output to come.

That looks sick man! Damn the more I see retro the more I want to try it myself. I guess I could start with my stocks as a side project. Only problem I I don't know where to start lol.

Did this ever wind up happening? I know my HIDs aren't aftermarket, but I wouldn't mind contributing a WRX Limited with STI HIDs into a pic.

Eventually I want to get 55w HIDs and different shrouds to get the output to be more crisp (cleaner cut-off). Plus I need to reseal my driver headlight anyway, so I figure while I'm in there I would like to mess with the orange reflector somehow. I think they're too orange to smoke them with spray-on tint, but I don't really want to just remove them like others have done, also. It just leaves this gaping hole in the headlight.

I also want to make my fog lights useful. One of the lenses is cracked and it's $100 to replace, so that'll have to wait for now. Once that's fixed I'd like to put a protective, clear vinyl over the fogs.

Otherwise there's a lot of good work going on in here! Thanks and keep it up!

I'm going to get a time set when I get back from Maui. As for a cleaner cutoff, all you'd need to do is the clear lens upgrade. Making 55 watt ballasts work might be a challange since they would have to use adaptors to exit the headlights differently but anything's possible. You might want to look into better capsules(bulbs) before bumping to bigger ballasts. When I get back we can meet up & talk.
