We'll see this saturday. I know for a fact the STI headlight I cleared for him should have had a D2r bulb but of course I didn't think to look. If the person he bought it from changed the bulb type for any reason he may need to buy new ballasts and bulbs. I told him I can probably sort it all out when I take a look at it.

The 04 STi comes with stock ballast and D2R bulbs. Whoever had the car before me put in Kaixen(sp?) ballast and H7 bulbs and removed the D2R and stock ballast. Make sense? I have no idea why they did that.

Do your headlights still aim up and down?

Yeah still aim up and down from inside the car, they just changed the bulbs out. Not the housing.

That's just freakin' bizarre.

I'm on the verge of ordering some Digital HID's for my fogs. Can't quite pull the trigger for some reason.

Picked up a set of 6K H7 bulbs today so I can actually have lights until we can get it figured out. Now I can stop crossing my fingers everytime I see a cop.

I think my old bulbs were 8-10k. They were really blue and did not put out alot of light. These 6K are a big improvement.

Would be a good idea to see how they mounted the ballast. I left the stock ballast intact because once you take it out, it leaves a giant hole at the bottom of the headlamp. The stock ballast seals it just right.

Whoever had that car before must of had a little bit of the downs. Downgrading to a non standard hid bulb makes no sense. He spent money making his headlights worse....

Hopefully the stock ballasts still work and have the stock connectors in the housing somewhere-otherwise it may mean baking them apart and removing the reflector to route the connector on the new ballasts. If they still work it just means hooking them back up and installing D2r bulbs. Fingers crossed. I still cannot fathom someone installing aftermarket HID on a vehicle that came with it stock. I'll know more when I look at it Saturday. Meh,I should just talk him into having me install those projectors I have in his headlights. Lol!

What's the difference between Hella 500's and Hella 500FF's? Basically, which one is better? I've seen some HID conversions on these guys, too. Looks pretty easy for a PnP kit.

500's are fresnel lens directed and the FF (Free Forms) are reflector based. The FFs are considerably brighter.

I cannot believe anybody would do an HID conversion on Hella 500s.

That's the equivalent of putting HIDs in Cavalier headlights...

Agreed. If they're not bright enough, then get 700FFs.

Ok, FF's it is. What's a good price? Walmart has sets for about $70, which is only a couple bucks more then the cheapest I've found online.

I'd buy 'em at Walmart. They usually have both 500FFs and 700FFs so you can see the difference.

Bigger reflectors usually means more output. Beween the two I'd go with the 700s. My 500s have been good to me but I've been eyeballing the Black Magics or the gigantic Lightforces. You remember when I flicked on my highs? The 500s are wired to come on with my stock highs. We can go for a quick cruise sometime if you want. Whatever you buy get clear protectors-part of the reason I'm looking at new lights is that not only is it time for an upgrade but I finally cracked one of my 500s which makes me. Having a reason to get better driving beams makes me!

I had 2 700FFs and 2 500FFs on the truck. The 700FFs had a wider beam and were easier to aim.

Just ordered some HID's for the fogs. Couldn't resist the price, even though shipping is still stupidly high (more then the kit).

$30 for a kit with a lifetime warranty. $40 for 55w. Here's a link for anyone interested:

Anyone know of some 4" diameter round lights? I may not be able to use the stock fog housing for my HID kit. Got people telling me they are cheap plastic and will melt.

I may have more of that aluminum angle around somewhere for a mount. Be sure that whatever you get for fogs have metal reflectors. 55 watt HIDs are unknown to me but I've heard that they do pump out more heat.
