Default They Found Our Car!!!

They found our car but now what? We have been paid and already bought a new one. They found it at 133 W 24th not to far from the house. Cops said it looks like it has been sitting there this whole time. All of our stuff is still in it and the insurance says we can get it out. Here's my deal I loved the car and the insurance guy doesnt know if we would get first chance at maybe buying it back.
If so then I would have to sell my car.
Anyone interested in a 02 wagon, full cobb exhaust, intake, cold air box, adjustable swaybars, 650cc injectors with pdx tune, lightened pulley, iridium plugs, access port, sti topmount and uppipe. OEM original rims and Dunlop winter studless. 17" oz ultralegra summers. Apillar guages with wideband. Oh yeah it's an automatic with 105k. Also has a H brace and stainless steel g-stop brake lines running blue brake fluid. Timing belt, water pump and radiator done around 100k. Not sure just testing the waters.

Go find the house that it's at, and slash their tires or something.

That's freakin' sweet! I'm glad it was found, but sorry that it's moved on. So who has claim on the car right now? I'm think I'm confused about that part. It seems that since you were "forced" to give up the car, you should have dibs, but who knows. For the price, you might buy the other people selling their's instead that we've been seeing posted on craigslist.

That's redicilous that it wasn't too far away.

Get that red one in Wasilla. He's asking 21,000, but that's way too much. It's a 5 speed!

yeah wife doesn't drive a stick and has no desire to learn. Not sure on the mileage the key wasn't in it and the insurance company has our spare. Damn it was nice to see it again.. would have been better if it was burnt to the ground . Wife and I are talking over selling my car to buy it back if that is an option. It has only 18k on it and I still have the snow tires and rims in the garage. Although it is the same bolt pattern as the rex so even if I don't get it I will use them.

How can you not resell a car that was stolen? If there is no damage and the insurance company has the title? I'm sure it would make for a nasty carfax report.

I enjoy MT because if I wanna pass someone more efficiently, I just drop a gear and boost around them!

Also, AT makes me feel kinda brainless, although today I drove my company's Toyota Matrix (AT) and finished an entire bowl of Cinnamon Roll oatmeal for breakfeast WHILE driving, so that's awesome.

18k miles is really good! Must've driven it conservatively.

Keep us posted on the insurance company's stand on rediscovered vehicles.

I'm glad my wife knows how to drive a manual transmission.

Great for those, "babe, I think you need to drive home tonight" nights....lol

Hahaha Yeah, along that same thought, I think overall it's a good idea because in an emergency situation, what if you had to drive a manual? I could think up several scenarios where you might have to drive someone else's car to find help or whatever.

Also, for my road trip to pick up my Forester this summer, I was severely limited as to which of my friends could come because most of my friends don't drive stick. Bastards.

first car I ever learned to drive was MT. My mom felt it important to learn on an MT so that way I knew how to drive any car/truck unless big rig or commercial in case of emergency.

You can register it and resell it just fine, with no problems, that's false information being given above.

Isn't it a salvage title or something like that?

Because the car was stolen and reported as such, the police will place a stolen status on your car in the DMV record. Once it's recovered, and because your insurance already paid the claim, it's up to them how to proceed. You technically should be able to retain the title with little, if anything, happening to the VIN record. The police simply remove the stolen status and it is as though nothing happened.

That said, you'll probably have to buy it back from the insurance company at this point, since they already paid the claim.

Yeah, it'll probably say salvage or theft recovery on the title from now on, branded for life. Knocks the price down when trying to sell it, but really no problems selling, registering, or insuring it like any other car.

It won't say "reconstruct," as Alaska calls them, unless the insurance company sent the DMV the title and told them it was junked.

It basically comes down to how quickly the insurance company acted. Once they total a vehicle, they have to notify the DMV. But there is some processing time. DMV may not have it recorded as junk yet. So, basically, you'll have to talk to your insurance company to see what they've done thus far and figure out where to go from there. APD will also have to remove the stolen status before anything can be done with the title, if they haven't already. Sometimes they forget.

The most likely scenario is you're probably better off with your new car because the old one has been junked and is going to be a reconstructed title no matter what. That decreases its value significantly, as you know. But, because it's still fairly recent, it may not have gotten that far along in the process yet.

<<<--- Spent 3 1/2 years working for DMV. I've dealt with it all before.

Congrats on finding it sorry about the dilemma

Most likely it will be classified as a Reconstructed Vehicle since he would be buying it back form the insurance company that paid out on it.
