Default I have a problem...

Ok...Im having a drivetrain issues with my front axle/bearing/hub? Now I can drive normal, go through all the gears and do full turns right and left. But whenever im in the higher rpm and try to mash it...It goes for a few hundred rpms then cuts power to the ground...Not engine power. NO power gets to my wheels...I dont believe its my clutch as it doesnt bounce of the rev limiter when i floor it in 5th nor does it feel like it is slipping when I pull off from a stop. Just seems to have a total loss of power that gets to the wheels.

I had a bad cv on my pass thinking that was the problem. changed it last night and problem still there.

My driver side hub bearings are on the way out and I believe my driver side axle is still good.

My only thought is the splines on the axle or hub (driver side) are smoothed down to where itll catch with a small amount of power given ,but with a lot itll just slip and not do anything?

stumpedd n confused...dont wanna spend money on things I dont have to, cause i don have any..

Obvious is a new bearing and maybe a new hub?

clutch is still your best bet. 9/10 clutches only slip under hard acceloration and moderately increase revs. Marlon I'll take a looksy for you tonight pm me for my # or get it from turbopedobear

most likely the clutch, are you hearing any noise when its happening? any kind of metal on metal squeal, things like that?
Mike

oh and if you think you destroyed the splines then you need to dump that gear oil asap before it causes a real problem with the rest of the tranny, like getting into the diff's, which more then likely its already in the front one if the splines are chewed up

yes the bearing on the driver side squeals when turning only. when aimed straight, theres no sound. Im not leaking any fluid from the trans or any of the axles. But I think the splines on the outside of the axle are toast...the ones in the hub where the bearing is... Im just going to get a hub from a JY and see what happens with that...

before you do that just pull the tire and pop the ball joint to pull out the axle , and look at the splines, if there toasted your not gonna want to keep driving on it anyhow

you know what you may not have to even do that, put that tire in the air and see how much play you got at the end

I had a similar problem when I blew my rear axle. The car would drive fine but under any acceleration the engine would spin and I wouldn't go anywhere. The limited slip rear diff and center dif would allow forward movement but it was delayed. My axle looked fine, however the "ball retaining cage" was shattered.

ya, I think I will just go ahead with a new hub n bearing...as there is forward side to side backward, all of the above movement in the wheel... but, I guess I would need to pull the hub to see if the axle is still good? but my problem sounds exactly like yours chad

Had my car done on Saturday, tried to take it out to break it in and had a similar problem... turned out I had a bad front axel. Replaced the axel yesterday and all is right in the world.
