computers piss me off.. heh..

I ran a PII 300 for the longest time.. 66MHZ bus.. and that served me fine.. Last year I built another comp.. PIII 600 coppermine.. and that is great. but the speeds are just changing so quickly.. that you'll never have the fastest thing out there..

And Chad, working at Cir City.. I am sure you see it alot..
the lamers who come in... all they do is look at the top end supercomputers.. and spend too much money.. then you ask what they need it to do.. and all they can tell you is e-mail and internet..
Realistically they'd be great with a cyrix 233.. but they need to out do thier neighbors..
I used to work at compusa, was always a gripe.. the computers out there are so much faster than 95% of the population needs..

heh, I'm not in a good mood today..
ok, done ranting..

oh yeah.. sounds like a nice computer..
too bad you can't easlily over clock the athalons anymore.. or has that been remedied?

Well Jim, to make you feel better. My workstation at home is a P2 266 with 128MB RAM. The NESIC Server is a First Generation Pentium 200 with 90MB of RAM. I get along just fine with a Voodoo2 in Counter Strike. - Kris

I do about 80% of my computer work (email, web, tec-ii tuning, word processing, etc.) - on a 300 MHz Celeron laptop (Armada M300).

I'm actually trying to get rid of my other computers - I simply just don't use them and they take up space. Anyone want a dual-processor Alpha workstation with 1 gig of RAM and a 40 gig RAID 5 disk array? I think I'll just run a quake server on it.

-Edwin

ps: actually, I have that machine for work purposes - it's not up for grabs. sorry.

IIRC, every athlon after the 750 has a locked clock multiplier.... could be wrong of course. You can always overclock a 533 celeron to a bit over 800 stably....

Hey Chad,
That's exactly what we're looking to upgrade our PII 233 to...an Athlon 900-they're really cheap to buy right now.

Good luck with the new machine!
