OMGHi2U Utah - Snowboarding Vacation Help

All

I was looking to plan a trip to Utah for 4 guys mid season. I have been to Park City which seems great but, I didn't have the chance to board while I was there. Although I can search on the net, I find asking the locals tend to produce better results.

I am trying to narrow down the location based off two factors.

1. A cabin we can rent Thu - Sun that is close to a decent resort.

2. We typically board up at Crystal Mountain in WA and was looking to something equal or better.

As far as the cabin is concerned, looking to get close as possible so we can booze it up with out having to drive. Any suggestions from the locals would be wonderful.

Thanks

Snowbird or Brighton. Snowbird has tons of lodging. Park is the mountain! Just find a local like me and follow them around.

The best thing about Utah is there is a ton of different resorts close so you have your choice on what you want to ride. Snowbird is probably the cloest thing to Crystal bit it's a lot bigger and steeper and you can stay at the cliff lodge at the resort. Brighton has a fun park and good backcounty within a easy traverse or small hike. solitude has fun backcountry and is never crowed. There is also the Canyons, Parkcity, Snowbasin and Powder Mountain so if you have time I would hit a few. Stay in the valley or downtown and you have your choice of a ton of resorts within a 30 min drive. BTW Aplental FTW! JK crystal is super fun just to expensive to live there and to long of a drive if you don't.

Thanks, I saw that place but, I couldn't find a map of the runs to gage what the length was or what the terrain was like.

not too bad theres some cool places in salt lake city down town area, I snowboard and my 2 buddies i went with ski and i would say we are all pretty damn athletic but after staying on the mountain from open to close your pretty damn exausted to go out drinking, get a hotel with a big ass jacuzzi and keep a couple bottles there, oh and tryin to get liquor there is pretty fun, one of you will have to get sponsered or something like that at the bar to drink but all in all it was cool and will defiantly be back this year

Your best bet is to get a room in SLC, and take the bus up to the areas. For partying Downtown is your best bet, unless you stay up in Park City. With 4 of the main areas reachable by Trax then the bus staying downtown is not that bad. Also you will not have to worry about getting a 4X4 rental or buying chains if the canyons are restricted from too much snow.

P.S. we no longer have Privet Clubs. Just Clubs.

Been to Utah before, we will bring our own booze (gallon of whiskey). We just get a little loud at times

Look for a cabin in the Wolf Moutain / Huntsville area. You are with in 10 miles or so of Powder Moutain or Snow Basin. The only draw back is there are no real bars in this area, at all.

Then forget about SLC, and just stay in Park City. If you don't care about anything else but getting pissed after ridding then the other option is Snowbird.

First a backstory to explain where i'm coming from:

I moved to utah a year ago and every here told me skiing was steep and deep here, well they where right on one part, they get some of the best and the most snow i've ever seen; Steep wise, not so much. This should be a surprise considering i moved from Alaska. I've skiied for 5 years and boarded for 9, I worked as a Ski Patroller, hate crowds and love to backcountry ski. Ok onto my point:

What are you priorities for this trip? Skiing wise first:

Crowds or no crowds

More Pow Less Pow

Traversing/No Traversing

Backcountry/No Backcountry

Drive to resort/Stay local

2300 in bounds at crystal is average size for resorts, i would say if your looking for something bigger and steeper go for snowbird, there are a ton of people that ski up little cottonwood (read alta/snowbird) so be ready for tons of people and tracked out snow by 10am (unless you go backcountry).

So tell us what you're looking for and we can point you at a good resort, or 2.

As for Night Life:

Again a backstory:
I love good beer, I have found 1 3.2 beer that I like but otherwise i refuse to drink the stuff they call beer around here, you learn quickly that you must either make your own, have a kegerator or bring in stuff from neighboring states.

So again, what are you looking for:

Just to get drunk?
Good beer?
Club scene/night life?
Hang out after skiing/Relax?

What people don't tell you is the night life in utah is non-existent compared to other places, 3.2 is all your getting unless you go to a "Club" (utah's version of a real bar).

So Tell us what your looking for and again we can point you in the right direction....

/end long response

You can get any beer with normal alcohol levels at the liquor store, it's only 3.2 in gas stations and grocery stores. The only reason to go to a neighboring state is if you want a keg.

What he means to say is you can get real beer from the liqour store.... as long as you bend over and take it from behind with no lube! (Expensive as hell)

You all complain about 3.2 beer. You should all read up on the difference between ABW and ABV before making statements about how weak our alcohol is....

besides, if you wanna get drunk you can still get drunk. trust me But as for snowboarding- what it comes down to is what type of riding you like to do, although I feel that park city has very good variety of all terrain, and far and away the best park in utah. Also a good night life and busses so you dont have to drive. Park City dude.
