Unhappy Motor wont turn on need help

I have a 02 bugeye and just finished my motor swap today and my motor won't crank. I checked the fuel and it is circulating fine I also changed the fuel injectors, and new spark plugs. The Fuel is fine. The motor sounds like it wants to turn on but it dosn't crank, it almost did today but it turned of after 5 sec. My check engine light is on. And people have been telling me the timing could be off. Can this be the problem any suggestions would help alot thanks.

with spelling/grammar like that, no wonder you can't get a complex machine to run. There are many threads on non-starting engines, start your search by, well, searching.

Buy a code reader and pull the codes. That's the obvious first step here...

dude the engine was like that when I pulled it out. It had oil in the turbo and in the intake manifold. Taking out an engine and putting it back in its not hard. This motor came from a car that was flipped over i bought it for 700 bucks. If I get it to turn on it would be a steel and you now that its not blown because it turned on for like 5 sec and it turned off but it sounded healthy.

easy to swap, but hard to get started =)

Ok, so you have a 2002 wrx according to your profile.

did you swap in a 2.5 short block? 2.5 long block?

If yes, what EM are you using? is there spark?

a 2.0 short block? 2.0 long block?

Double check grounds, etc.

Also, you bought a motor from a rolled car, and didn't bother to check timing on the motor?

Yeah $700 is a STEAL, not steel. but if the timing is all screwed up, you just lost out on $700.

Back to basics first.

You said there is fuel, now check for spark. The third item is air...but that usually isn't the problem.

Next, as someone said, get a code reader and see what it is telling you. Just in case you didn't know, the CEL is always on if the car is on, but the motor is not running.

Third, deal with and codes you have thrown. Also, check the battery voltage. It may just be dead from being old, or sitting, or from numerous failed attempts at starting the motor.

After all that, then get into taking off the timing covers and being sure the marks were aligned. Was the flipped car bumped in the front at all?

There's more to do, but that is a start.

Thanks dude yea its a 2.0 we have spark cause i just got new spark plugs. And i checked to see if it was sparking. The ground is fine. Believe me we have tried everything now i think its the timing so tomorrow I am going to check it out and if its not timed Ill time it & see what it does. (The motor didn't start on the car it was originally from but a engine has to start even if it has knock well at least my other one did.)

Well if it's not timed I will time it. The motor almost starts. sometimes it starts for like 2 sec and turns off but its a good motor I can hear that it has potential. (It's a 2.0 going in a 02 bugeye.) Just a regular motor swap. Stock Em.

so you bought a motor that wasn't starting in another car...

swapped it into your car...

having trouble starting...

so yeah, check the timing...

if its off, let us know how many teeth on whichever side, etc.
