Default Camaro, Challenger and Mustang to be new Sprint Cup cars

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car...llow_-car_news

This would be the best thing to happen for Nascar as they cars have not looked like the cars they represent for many years. Hopefully Chevy will sign on even if they are becoming less involved in the sport. The camaro is they face of the perormance side of the company now, along with the corvette mostly, but this would do wonders for them I think. I wonder if the new CEO or Gov. will have a say?

1) If its for the Nationwide series then thats what the thread title should reflect...NOT the Sprint Cup series. Frackn shenanigans

2) This was an interesting part:
"With the cancellation of the Toyota Camry Solara, Toyota would run a Camry, although a rumored Celica-like sports coupe could be a more appropriate pony-car competitor."
The "Celica" like sports coupe AKA the Toyo-Baru coupe! So imagine that...a Subie in Nascar.

Boring with a whole new look!

I vote the only oval racing should be dirt ovals.

NASCAR just needs to die off and disappear. They aren't stock cars anymore. Nobody cares except the deep-south hillbillies.

Regardless of shape of track, it does take skill to drive nascar, drafting itself is difficult, I have been in so many debates on this site about nascar being a valid and interesting series. I like it, millions of people do also, just because you don't doesn't mean it isn't to other people, and I'm not a redneck either!!!! Unless rednecks are black drive subaru wrx's and are born in the north. And yea this thread was titled wrong by me, innocent misprint when I first read the article. Yes F1, IRL, American Le Mans in particular are favorite series of mine also, but I have a mush better chance of going to a nascar race than one of the aforementioned series.

there's no doubt nascar drivers are talented/skilled/whatever, it's still boring to watch as all get out.

I will cave and say that driving that fast anywhere takes nerves and skill, but after a while its all relative. When you work your way up through the ranks, starting at 80mph, and slowly creep up through the roundy round world, the speed becomes relative.

I would say that among all the professional series of racing NASCAR drivers are easily in the worst shape. Even Jeff Gordan in his prime had a hard time driving an F1 car more than a couple laps. His neck was exhausted. The G forces in a cup car are far less than those seen on a road race car. In most cases there are long straights where the driver can rest, and they have the largest racing seats I have ever seen to hold their heads in place.

I mean, look at guys like tony stewart. A tad chubby, not saying he is in bad shape, but when you compare him to a guy like Sebastian Loeb, or Rubens Barrichello. Fitness is far more important in other forms of racing than NASCAR. If Mark Martin can still race at what 50, then the physical aspects of it must be tempered enough. I do not care how fit he is. Being 50 years old has physical negatives.

Much of that has to do with the backing within the established dynasties that already exist in the Sprint Cup. An incredible amount of a team's success is reliant on the pit stops (those guys are healthy, btw) and the engineering that goes into setups.

As for the g-force thing.. if you took an F1 driver, put him in a fighter cockpit and slung him around the sky for a few minutes you'd probably find that his boundaries are nowhere near that of the pilot's. Again, it's all relative and completely irrelevant when crossing venues.

Carl Edwards outran Michael Schumacher in a head-to-head race at last year's Race of Champions... but that may be a poor example since he's ripped.
