I figured instead of starting hundreds of threads regarding questions/topics, i'd just post up my build thread and post the questions within them.... lets see how this goes...
month or two ago i started having problems with my car, ****ty start, stumbling idle. Logged it it was pulling time, a lot of timing. found out my silicone elbow from the turbo to TMIC tore, replaced it, problem still existed, however the drive home it got better. Less knock etc, replaced plugs next day.. Still was ****ty, oh and then i discovered smoke from the oil filler cap and any vacuum line... Couple weeks later i decided to man up and finally get to building the motor... (so much for buying a bike) the car ![]() the parts so fare.. 1 2005 Ej257 with a spun rod bearing. I'm going to only be using the bareblock, everything else i got for a good price and i wanted some souvenirs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the future parts list.... 2009 STi nitrided crank 2009 sti 11mm oil pump 9:1 Wiseco 100mm Pistons Innovative Tuning H-Style Rods ARP headstuds ACL Race Bearings OEM Headgasket gates timing belt Depending on how i feel and if i want to do headwork... i'll do the usual 264/272 Kelford cams with ferrea (sp) valves and valve spring & retainers.

Unto two questions...
Does anyone have experience with Innovative Tuning rods ? I've talked to them as well as people on IWSTI (a fairly unhelpful site) and so far they've been very good reviews, like eagle rods yet lighter and more balanced. Where do you guys send off your pistons to get coated? Jet Hot, Swaintech ? |

What version of ACL bearings is everyone using ? I was looking at ACL Race, but talking to my builder he said something about HX or H due to the fact that Eagle style rods the clearances were wrong or too tight ? |

Also, I would go with the ACL Race bearings, Ron at RAW recommends them highly and many people have had good luck with them. If the rod is not fitting the bearing right I would be highly suspicious. You an get diff size ACL bearings etc but that addresses Crank journal size, not the ID of the rod. All rod bearings should have the same OD. I would try fitting an ACL Race bearing to a stock STi rod and see if it is still tight. If it isn't I would look at different rods. If you have an ID mic that would really be the ideal way of doing it. |

^^ I'm not using EAGLE brand rods, but Innovative Tuning, which are similar to all H style rods, except I-T says they are not from China. Since he said Eagle had a problem with the ACL Racing and suicide-eggroll noticed a clearance issue with the ACL Race bearings and Eagles i figured since i have an H style rod similiar to EAGLE it be something to look into. I saw that about CP, i know wiseco will come coated on the top, im thinking about the piston skirt as well to help with cold-startup wear.
Now a question about oil pumps. Stock 04-07 had a 10mm pump, in 08 they changed it to 11mm... Would going with an 11mm oil pump lower my oil pressure than if i were to run a 10mm ? Seems like all i can get from Subaru is the new 11mm which is fine by, but it concerned about oil pressure on a non-shimmed 11mm pump. |
