Default For what its worth, CV replacement

For those of you who may need to replace a front axle on the Baja, keep in mind that the ride height changed from 03 to 04 and again in 05. This appears to matter when purchasing an after market part from Autozone, VIP, etc. I recently had a torn inner boot on the passenger side front this Spring, and could not get an axle for an 05 (it was unavailable) so I purchased one for an 03. To the eye it looked the same and installed OK. I also bought a replaement boot to repair the original and use as a spare. After the install I noticed a slight shuddering at about 20 to 25 mph, this would go away at higher speeds. At first I thought it might be a misfiring plug, so I changed wires and plugs, but the shudder remained. So I just lived with it (I did suspect the axle). Well last week I replaced a torn inner boot on the drivers side, and while the Baja was jacked up I also removed the aftermarket 03 axle and reinstalled the repaired passenger side axle. Now the shudder is gone So either it is crappy aftermarket parts, or the increased angle from the slight factory lifts are taken into account when these axles are manufactured

Note:As the title implies, this is just my personal observation.

Buck

Its possible there is a difference. But I kow I've had numerous problems at the shop with cheap aftermarket axles with vibration. More then likely I'll say it was poor workmanship on the axle. I'm gonna look up both axles now and see if there is a difference

A while back I replaced axles on my 04. One of the remanufactured axles had a similar problem along with vibration at high speed. Ended up replacing them with new axles. (only $30 more apiece)

so who's axle's did you use. Subaru OE?

Reason I ask is that I have the same vibration around 20-25mph that seemed to start just after subaru warrantied one of my axles! It has been driving me nuts for a while.

The axles were aftermarket, from either Autozone or Napa. I don't remember which right now, I had called a lot of parts stores to find them.

In my case, I have the original axles (both repaired with new inner boots) the after market axle is out. If Subaru replaced your axle, and it vibrates, I'd bring it back and have the mechanic drive it.

Ive gotten bad rebuilt cv axles before, just have to exchange it. I tend to stay away from napa parts anyway though, had alot of bad, misboxed or poorly rebuilt parts.
