Default Audi demonstrates outstanding efficiency in challenge ĎA to B

Quote:
To prove the efficiency of its current range of models, Audi is testing them in real-life conditions by running a selection for 4182km from Norway to Italy. The Efficiency Challenge A to B runs from the village of A on the Norwegian Lofoten Islands to Bee in Northern Italy. The testing will end on September 30 however; Audi has released interim results of the performance of its models. On top of the list is the new A3 1.6 TDI, which has recorded emissions of 99g/km and has managed a claimed 94.2mpg. Meanwhile, the S3 has returned 40mpg so far. The Audi A4 2.0 TDI e, with CO2 emissions of 119g/km, has to this point returned 72.4mpg. The S4 model has returned 36.7mpg. The new A5 Sportback 2.0 TFSI has managed 57.6mpg while the Q7 V12 TDI has returned 32.5mpg. There are three legs for this challenge: from A to Trondheim, Trondheim to Berlin and Berlin to Bee. For a more detailed testing, the cars will be moving through towns, villages, city center, autobahns and the Alps.

So that's about 2600 miles. That would be a fun drive.

Well, from what I understand the 2.0 engines are supposed to be much better than the older 1.8 engines.

Can't agree more with that statement. Damn those coilpacks and fuel sending units. Must be the way American gasoline is refined.

Well they've certainly improved reliability from 9 years ago. Are they still pretty bad? I only know one person than owns an Audi and she hasnt had anything go wrong with it.

A coworker who's kept his GTI beyond the warranty doesn't think the reliability's improved, let alone the cost of repairs.

Compare that to my WRX bought in 04 that's still to have so much as a check engine light.

Odd that VW and Audi are so far apart on the list. Doesnt make too much sense.

Odd that Audi ranks higher than Ford, Hyundai, Subaru, and BMW. Not to say that BMW and Ford don't have their share of issues, but more than Audi? I was not expecting that at all from Subaru or Hyundai though.
