Default Red WRX logo on my seat back

I'm older and generally don't want a flashy red stitched WRX logo to remind me what model my car is... I was thinking of dyeing the logo black to make it a lot more subtle. Has anyone done this? (for reference its a 2010 WRX)

I was thinking it could be as easy as coloring in the red stitching with a permanent black sharpie?

Any input is appreciated.

Why not get seat covers, rather then destroy the seats with a marker?

If you go the marker route try a fabric pen. Look at the craft store.

He doesn't like his current seats because he doesn't need to be reminded what car he is in....why would he want seats that remind him that he doesn't have an STi

^yea, that's not a half bad idea.

but you could just get some rit fabric dye. black should go over the red pretty nicely.

OP best bet is to trade with an 08 wrx owner...direct swap and they don't have any logo, all black cloth just like your seat.

THIS. Because the pre 08 model seats will not fit in a 08-10 model without seat bracket modification. And should you ever need to sell your car, if you dyed the log black it might hurt your chances of selling.

That's exactly what I was thinking no hassle of swapping seats... dye it black and it would never bother me.

Thanks guys for your input.

just pick some up and test it on a hidden part of the threads and see how it turns out. if it just makes it a dark red, don't bother doing the whole seat. If it looks good, go for it.

and 99% of people who would be buying the car wouldn't care if the stitching was red or black, or even realize that it was supposed to be red, so no, it won't "hurt your resale value"

The color of the logo might not affect sale price - but if you can tell the past owner DIY'ed something cheaply it raises flags

Listen to all you guys talking about doing all the work of a seat swap simply because he wants to black out the wrx logo. Just use a black sharpie and go slow. Then make a new thread here with the word Murdaa in it. People will eat it up.

im probably wrong for saying this buttt, get a super sharp exacto knife and SLOWLY go to each stich and cut it, then the logo should just pull off, correct? just an idea

I would not use a knife. I would try a seem ripper. They are designed for this type of “thread removal”. But I think it will end up looking like ****. With embroidery the stitch is tied off in knots every so often to help keep it from coming apart. That mean you will not be able to get all the threads out.
I still think your best bet is custom made seat covers. Then the seats are still in good shape when you trade it in.
(BTW, I do custom emboirdery.)

A seat swap is incredibly easy. You'll probably spend more time driving to meet someone to swap seats than it takes to actually do the swap.

I'm definitely going to dye the big white RECARO letters black - or at least dark gray. No need to advertise my seat from 100 feet away.

sharpies are a poor idea, especially to use on any fabric surfaces. been there, tried that (on other things)

Did I ask how hard it was to do a seat swap? I have swapped my seats 4 times. Stop following me around.

Take off the bifocals when you drive?

J/K. If you want to sharpie it out, go for it. It'll start fading to purple after a few weeks, especially in the sun. Just re-apply as needed, or try using a paint pen.
