Default car shopping....

I'm planning on getting rid of the wifes Astro and putting her back in a Subaru, thought I'd run it buy you guys for any tips/pointers.

Needs:
I'd like something less than 10 years old
has to be an auto
good mileage
NA, No reason to get a turbo car.
Would like to be able to put a bike rack on the back, have one that goes in a reciever, they make hitches for some of these right?

I'm on the fence between a Legacy or an Impreza.
I have plenty of other vehicles to move things around in, the benifits of a wagon would be pretty negligible. I think Legacy wagons are ugly, but she had one before and really doesn't care. I wouldn't mind an impreza wagon.

Any thoughts?

Impreza wagon. I'd be rocking a wagon if a black manual was in stock when I bought my sedan.

The mechanic I know says to avoid the twin cam motor, (I forget whar years they produced them...1999 or so?) that is all I know about what to avoid. No, we now use L/100km but I am over 50 and still convert to MPG that is the standard I am used to. Oh your car gets 10L per 100 km...thats nice I guess...

We still have guns, you just have to get a permit if you want to look at them. Our gun laws keep the average home safe from the little kids living there (they must be locked up with the ammunition 10 miles away) From what I have seen on police raids, the bad guys still have the best guns......

Yes apparently we do have good beer...I don't drink the stuff. Good luck finding a good car.

I seem to recall someone complaining about a DOHC 2.5 at some point. I think we'll probably look for something around a 2.0. Not sure when or if that motor ever went dual cams. Guess I should sell the van before I get to carried away, I'm likely to buy something if I start looking too much.

They keep trying to get our guns, but being unregulated for so long is gonna make it pretty hard to enforce. And as you mentioned, the baddies will always have them anyways.

Imperial gallon (Canadian gallon) is smaller than a US gallon. 1 Imperial gallon is 0.83 US gallons.

It'd be 48mpg US if I did the math right.

Theres no way I'm adding a honda bucket to my list of vehicles. Dunno if you noticed, but we're selling an astro (AWD) and looking for a Subaru (AWD). I can only think of one Honda Civic that was an AWD, and I believe it's over 10 years old (late 80's, IIRC).
I'd consider an Audi if they weren't so expensive. Or a BMW X-series. Aside from that I can't really think of any affordable worthwhile alternatives. Any suggestions?

Naw, the Honda Pilot is AWD as well.

Audi and Bimmers arent too pricey these days for some of their AWD cars (I know I have been shopping too)
I'd vote a BP Legacy GT for her. (thats a 2005-2008ish, I think) The canuck is right though, there are some known issues on the DOHC engine. Although In my reading when I was a Subie owner, even the newer SOHC were developing similar problems.

A seemingly decent model year is the BE/BH Subies... (2000-2005) at least there are a lot on the road.

In Ken's world the Honda Pilot and Honda Odyssey are mini dune-buggys, not minivans. Whats up with honda and naming different stuff the same thing?
