Default Next 6-Series: the best-looking car that Bmw has done in years

Quote:
These words came from Bmw North American chief Kim O’Donnel on the eve of the Frankfurt Motor Show. It appears that the new vehicle is really stunning and will be a radical change comparing it to the current 6-Series. The new model was designed by Adrian van Hooydonk a.k.a. the successor of Chris Bangle and according to O’Donnel will keep the size of the current model but will show a more svelte looking. Regarding the debut, O’Donnel said that the 2011 Geneva Motor Show will be the perfect place to unveil this new model.

Anyone by the name of Hooydonk will undoubtedly design a winner. Can't wait to see the pics.

I look forward to it. The current 6 (having seen an M6 in person) is very nice, but didn't seem quite...... right. Maybe it was the droopy-ish headlights combined with some other visual cues, but while the overall shape is great, it wasn't something that made me say "Wow."

And I think BMW wants their GT coupe to do that.

^it looks somewhat ass-heavy or too light on the nose. either way, i dont think it's as nicely balanced as the M5.

Yeah, I felt the same way: the M5 seemed more balanced, even though I don't like the current-gen M5's headlights.

I hate the current generation M5. The M6 is ok, but It looks very heavy, because it is.

^^
They stop producing the current 5 series the end of Oct/09.

They are getting ready to convert the factory for the next generation 5 series due for sale spring 2010.

I was thought there was too much going on with the 6. Too many shapes, too complicated. It looked like BMW was trying too hard. Hopefully this new iteration will be more fluid.

I wonder if they will try to do something a little old school like the e24 6 series.

Actually Hooydonk is the guy that designed the current 6 series. He is also the guy that designed the "Bangle Butt". And actually its his design work you mostly see in the current crop of BMW cars.

As far as that statement "the best-looking BMW in years" its not smart to introduce the idea that the company thinks its recent designs have not been too good.

I'm not sure why someone would make such a statement, especially 2 years ahead of a debut. As always let the car speak for itself. If it really is that great people will tell BMW thats the case, not the other way around.
