Default Leaked image reveals look of radical 2012 Golf

Quote:
The MkVI Golf has been in showrooms for less than a year, but already we have the best images yet of how its successor is shaping up. And our information on this radical new hatchback, slated for a 2012 debut, has come from the most unlikely source - VW itself!
A promotional video for VW's recently revealed L1 concept accidently revealed a groupe of designers hard at work on a clay styling model of the next-generation Golf in the background. You can see a freeze-frame from that video on the right. It might be a bit blurry, but the photo proves that work is well underway on the new Golf, suggesting a particularly short lifecycle for the current MkVi car.
As with the transition from MkV to MkVI, styling changes will be subtle and evolutionary - in keeping with the firm's existing design language. Changes include a sharper snout and more steeply raked windscreen, as well as narrower headlights and more pronounced wheel arches.
VW is staying tight-lipped about the leaked image, but the scene has been promptly erased from the official video

To be quite frank, other than some cosmetics, it looks overall exactly the same as the current Golf. There could very well be differences under the skin but those differences are certainly not visible in the posted pictures.

Well I'll be the first to say I see a big change in style compared to the current golf. Most of you need to look up the Golf MKVI to understand. The lines on the MKVI version are quite boxy and polygonal, this 2012 version is a step back towards free flowing lines.

Since the Scirocco won't make it stateside, and they noticed all the hype, the designers are probably trying to give it subtle design cues from that car.

I prefer the more blunt nose that we've got now. I'll check with Justin Timberlake, but I'm pretty sure nobody has brought back pointy yet.

Default VW designer struggles with Golf

Quote:
Volkswagen group chief designer Walter de Silva has claimed he doesn’t sleep at night when he thinks of how to design the seventh-generation VW Golf.

The sixth-generation Golf was launched earlier this year with only minor changes over the outgoing model. Although he didn’t give anything away about the styling of the next-gen Golf, he did admit it was causing him sleepless nights.

“When I think about the Golf VII, I do not sleep at night,” he said. De Silva had minimal influence in styling the current Golf, but he admits the next model will be his greatest challenge.

The Italian also described the styling of the recently-launched VW Polo, claiming it is “simple”.

“The new Polo is a simple and honest shape and designing simplicity is much more difficult than overdesign with decoration,” he said.

De Silva also claimed the stresses of the job, which he started in February 2007, have led him to spending more time in the past two years with VW group CEO Martin Winterkorn than with his wife

I disagree about the "radical" part. 07 to 08 Imprezas = radical change. 2004 to 2005 mustangs = radical change. This looks like the typical evolution of body styles. They definitely decreased the boxiness of it, but car makers have been "streamlining" their cars since forever. It looks good, I like the streamlined front end with narrow headlights but It's still very clearly the same look as the current golf.

Good step forward, yes.
Radical, i think not.

First off autoexpress is crap.

Second this is just a clay model that VW forgot to edit out of one of their videos, there could be hundreds of clay models for the MK7 Golf.

People need to relax.

I was expecting something that was at least worth a look.........I was wrong. Looks the same as the 2010, but just a little worse. Hopefully they will at least give the car some more power for the 2012 redo.......
