Default Engine runs fine, maintenance is up to date, but I'm getting terrible gas mileage?

Ok, so my car is getting about 250 miles per tank, and I don't know why.
-Maintenance is up to date (newer spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter)
-I'm driving very easy

When I turn my car off, sometimes I can smell fuel. But not all the time.

What are the common causes of bad gas mileage? Dirty MAF? Vacuum leak?

Gimme some diag ideas please.

My 08 STi always gets about 250 miles to the tank

Then again, that's ALL city driving. What kind of driving do you do?

Sounds about normal to me, I get around 240 miles per tank.

Unless this is all highway, in which case that's a bit low. Easiest cause for bad gas mileage is the car is running rich. Primary causes of that are a dirty or bad MAF, or a bad o2 sensor. You'll need to find a tactrix cable and log the car to find out which.

My car's the same way. 04 STi when stock it only got 280 to a full tank. I just had the plugs done and flashed a stage 2 cobb map to it and im still getting 250-275. I don't beat on the car that often. Seems like it's pretty common for sti's to get between 250-300.

Napa carry the maf cleaning kit eggroll?

Made a world of difference for me when I cleaned the MAF. I went 80k without cleaning. ~$8 at local auto stores. Now I will clean it more often. Especially if you use an oiled filter.

I get about 240 per tank on my 09' WRX.

I have tried, BP, LukOil and Sunoco. All are the same.

The reason I mentioned the brand is because my B5S4 would get about 30miles more to the tank with BP over the rest.

i was averaging 25 mpg on my '07 TR until a few weeks ago when it suddenly dropped to about 200 miles per tank.

I had not replaced the rear diff fluid since buying the car 8,000 miles ago (had it looked at then & it was crystal clear) and after replacing it i'm right back to about 330-350 miles per tank. i usually fill up with about 14 gallons of 93 octane BP or Shell. the rear diff fluid was gunky... no chunks or anything alarming, but glad i changed it when i did.

not bad for city and some interstate driving on a Stage 1 P&L tune.

When my 07 Sti was stock I was getting about 300 miles to a tank with mixed driving... Now on E85 I only get 160-175 per tank. I havent really driven on 91 since I got tuned for both

What is the point of posting the number of miles to a tank? Doesn't anybody know how to calculate mpg?

I get 25-27 mpg on the highway. City mileage really depends on how aggressively you drive but I am usually in the low 20s.

The O.P. set the tone by stating his miles per tank.

my average MPT is around 240-250 with mixed city/highway/flogging.

My stock 07 STi gets about 17mpg mixed. That's usually about 220 miles per tank (I think)... It's getting tuned next Saturday and should get 20mpg or better though. A lot depends on your driving style, I live in an area with lots of hilly, curvy roads and so my engine sees boost quite often. I have 2 cats (stock DP) and my car stinks, all the time.

i get anywhere from 240-270 before the dummy light turns on. usually fill up around ~13gal, so anywhere from 19-21mpg city for me. once i finish my tune, those numbers should bump up a couple mpg.

These are some low numbers.

City = 260-280
highway = 300-320

When I fill up, it's about 12.5-13.5 gal
This on a tuned forester FXT.

Without the tune about a 5-10% difference, less.
