Default Spicy Food Eaters: Why do we do it?

Here's the facts:

-Spicy food is delicious.
-Makes your face sweat
-Makes your nose run
-Makes your anus burn when you poop

I find myself wondering why I ate something spicy after I've taken the Browns to the Super Bowl and felt the afterburn. But, of course, it has never deterred me from eating spicy foods. Are we masochists?

Cause I was raised to drown my mothers lifeless flavorless cooking in Tabasco for some kind of hope of flavor.

Same reason we drink when we know a hangover is on the way.

It's totally awesome while we are doing it right up until the next day, at which point you hate it more than anything in the world.... until 2 days later when you forgot how much you hated it and do it again!

My favorite ridiculously hot thing is Carne Adovada from the best New Mexican joint in Phoenix (Richardson's). It's awesome because you **** BRIGHT red for the next two days.

So good. Glalhglghalghalghaglhaglagha want now.

Oh, and I was raised in New Orleans. I dare you to find food there that isn't spicy.

I never understood the application of too much spice : wasabi, Tabasco, Srichiana (sp?), etc...

I like a little spice but not so much spice that it takes away from the taste of the actual food. I don't care what you say, if you add too much spice that is really all you are tasting and that seems pretty worthless...

Some foods are merely just sponges for delicious spicy goodness.

I wanted to be like my dad, so I ate all the spicy foods he ate. Now I love them, and I'm pretty sure he's burned his tastebuds off.

I don't think I have ever gotten to a point where I cannot taste the food at all even though my mouth was a firery hell.

I dunno... It's unboring food, I guess. And I never have exit problems. I have found that eating a half jar of sport peppers in one sitting will loosen anything lingering in the large intestines. No anus burn, though. Well, that how it works with my system, anyways.

I love to sipe a good cola while eating groovy spicy food. If I eat too much, I get tired.

I enjoy New Mexican food with new mexican green and red chile....but it has a distinctive flavor beyond being just 'hot' or spicy.

Stuff that is flavorless and just 'hot' is gross and pointless.

Peppers are a great flavor enhancer. Endorphins are a good free high too!

It makes eating a more involved experience. I already default to shoveling food down my throat if social situations permit, and eating spicy food almost requires this, unless you want to go down in flames.

I also enjoy clear sinuses.
