That thing was a boat. The brakes and shocks were wore out but that 318 motor would take you 100mph in a heartbeat...which is reallllly scary without good brakes and shocks. I traded a washer and dryer for it in 1987 and traded to someone else a couple of years later for some guns. I had forgotten all about that car until I got a call from the State Police telling me it had been involved in a high speed chase and totalled two police cruisers. The guy I traded to never got it in his name. I got a call 3 years later from the Atomic Wrecking yard telling me it showed up there and they were needing permission to crush it. I should have named it "Christine"

I bought it for $425 with the intention of getting me through the winter of '04/05 so I didn't have to drive my old '02 WRX. The car was a piece of crap. It ran...barely. The heat didn't work, which was fun since I was driving it in the winter. Any condensation on the road ended up getting into my passenger side floor, which ended up freezing. I basically had a small pond on the floor. Luckily it didn't break down and I was able to make it through the entire winter before I sold it to a guy I worked with.

Toss up between my first car or a car Im driving while both subies are down temporarily

first car 92 Pontiac Grand Am. paid 600 for it but it shook violently when Id go around any corner. One night on my way back to work the whole car started shaking. When I got it stopped the entire back suspension was collapsed. Scrapped it. Didnt get much cause it was more rust than car.

Currently driving.. 97 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI. Paid $300 for it. I thought it was good at first. For a car with 260,000 miles on it the supercharger still pulls all the way through. Then I found out it leaked gas, a lot. If it wernt for me delivering pizza it would be a money trap. Gas guage doesnt work or the CD player. But all the other extras still do oddly. Either way Ive learned to keep my distance from Pontiac

2003 Nissan cube. What garbage. Bought it with intermittent starting issues. Replaced the cam sensor, worked for awhile, then the shifter doesn't work without pressing the shifter lock button. Two weeks later bad starter. I had a 97 cube with less problems.

Brand new 1978 Ford Mustang II. In the first year (only year I owned it because I sold it), the headliner fell from roof on to our heads, the RR wheel bearing burned out (causing the wheel to seize, in traffic) and the ECU burned out twice. The ECU must have had some sort of early GPS since the first time it burned out just outside Bumfronication Texas. The second was just outside Bumfronication KS. Neither Bumfronication had a Ford dealer. Goober’s auto repair had to call the nearest Ford dealer and have the ECU sent out on a bus.

Actually it was really nice, I loved it. It was just unreliable as hell.

My forester had the most down time by lightyears, but that was largely my own doing, pushing it for that much power.

89 Hyundai Excel, it was also my first car. Bought for $2300 and paid the same amount to keep it running for a year until I let it go for a shiny old 86 Cavalier sedan!

1990 Pontiac sunbird. I can't think of anything at all that was good about the car.

For starters, the gas gauge didn't work at all, found this out the hard way one night about 5 miles from home. Ran out of gas and I had to walk home at roghly 2 am, pretty much steal the keys to my parents truck, drive to fill a gas can, gas up the car then drive my parents truck home and walk back to the damn car. None of the dash display light up so at night I would use a flash light to check my speed. Whenever it rained, I was guaranteed to be siting in a puddle of water. Lastly, I was pissed off one night and punched the steering wheel and the horn got stuck on, so I was driving around for 20 mins like that, to get the horn off I punched the wheel again. Ended up having an electrical issue and one of my parents friends just took it, I didn't want money for the damn thing.

1989 Nissan Stanza. Would stall if I hit the brakes too hard going down hill. Paid 300 for it, gave me a year of fun. Then wouldn't pass inspection lol.

2001 Acura MDX. Had a bunch of electrical issues, which meant the windows would roll down by themselves at the most inopportune moments and every light in the car would start flashing....

***11 year update at the bottom***

1998 BMW M3 2 door coupe. Amazing car to drive, great to look at, but horrible to maintain. I owned it from 2000-2001, 12 solid months. During this time span it was in the dealership for 3 solid months! There was a vacuum leak that they could not find, which allowed the car to die during cold starts. They had to wait for the regional Rep to come out each time to work on the car since it was such a rare case. Once the dust settled, they (BMW of Tucson) informed me to take my business elsewhere. I learned a valuable lesson, dealerships are independently owned and have the right to refuse anyone's business. Apparently, I and my car were pains to work with. BMW of America did not wish to get involved either...

2 months after the 3 month visit, the passenger side door window stopped going up and the P/S pump's bearings went out. I had to drive it 100 miles to Phoenix for warranty repair (car was under warranty this whole time). After the Phoenix visit, I promptly put it up for sale.

***
Here is the ultimate kicker, that was ~11 years ago, one of our current day Subaru STi customers owns my old car! We got to talking about his M3 one day and I mentioned the above whore story and he said "wait, my M3 came with a massive pile of repair papers for a vacuum leak". The more we chatted, the more I realized it was the car. Hellrot Red 2 door coupe with body colored side moldings (something custom I had done) I swear, this car is Steven King's Christine, and she's coming to get me!!!

But Steve... has the new owner had the same issues? Or has he had a solid time with the car?

Outside of replacing worn out suspension items, it has been a great car for him. He keeps offering to bring it down for me to see and drive again. I'd take him up on the offer, but I'm afraid it will awaken the gremlins of the past.

1998 Daewoo Lanos. Never left me stranded, but it was starting to decompose after 5 years.
It was faster than a Mitsubushi Mirage at least.
