A lot of this thread seems unfair to the cars - neglected maintenance, not doing simple repairs leading to larger repairs still not done, beating the **** out of it, etc etc. If you had treated said worst car as you treat your best car, it probably wouldn't be your worst car.. in some cases at least..

If only the car could make the thread "worst owner you ever had"

The first car i ever bought when i was 17, was a '91 Dodge Stealth (NOT awd, or TT), i know slow, but i was a broke kid lol. I bought it with 145k miles for $4500 dollars off some shady high mileage used car dealership. (strike 1).
First problem occurred when driving down a 4 lane rd (2 each way), relatively light traffic moving at 45mph (speed limit). I was in the right lane when a car pulls out from a side road roughly 50ft in front of me, i hit the brakes, they lock up and the back end starts giving way. Eventually lose it and i spin acrossed the street and end up facing the correct way in the OTHER right lane. Ended up with nothing other than a bent wheel (very lucky). Turns out this all occurred because the ABS was not working. The salesman told me it was working properly when the car was sold, because i questioned the ABS light flashing twice on start up.
During the time i was waiting to get the car back on the road, i figured it would be smart to bring it to my mechanic to see what else was wrong. I remembered finding a rag tucked away inside of the engine within the timing belt. A few other things had to get fixed too.
The "new" paint job i was promised when i bought the car, was already starting to bubble too. (Had to of been the equivalent of a $50 dollar paint job.
Get the car back on the road, and everything is going good for a few weeks. Go out to leave for school one day, and the car won't drive. Turns out the trans blew.
So the car goes into the shop again, i end up finding a used tranny with 50k miles and get it in there.
After about 3 weeks i finally get the car back and am able to drive it around for i guess about a month before it wont start again.
Bring it back to the mechanic. Ended up having to rebuild the top end of the motor.
Get the car back, and im estatic because during the last 8 months, i had the car on the road for maybe 2 and a half. Im leaving work one day and the car starts making ungodly noises, which sounds like a loose belt at first. I worked 2 miles from my house so i figure im going to be ok to get it home. By the time i got home, the car sounded like the belt was completely getting ripped apart.
That was the last time the car ever ran. Because after that, the car wouldnt turn over. Turns out it had a cracked head. (less than a month having the engine worked on).
So the car goes Back to the mechanic. And weeks go by with no response from him. Just kept leading me on, and on and on. He was supposed to be looking for a refurbished motor, or getting me quotes on what it would cost to be fixed. Then months go by, and still nothing. The mechanic lived on the same block as my poppop and the shop was a block away, so he was easy to track down. Well eventually, the mechanic just disappeared, he left the shop and moved from his house with his family. We ended up talking to a lawyer, and turns out he owed thousands in taxes and other bills to the government, and there were 20+ other lawsuits pending against him from the shop.
Meanwhile when the car was sitting at the shop there was vandalism/theft to the cars around it. Someone flattened a Fiero with cinder blocks.
Someone actually tried to steal mine, i guess the thieves werent too bright, because they tried stealing a car without an engine inside. Broke my window, steering column ripped out, spray paint all over it. Just a mess. So then the police impounded all the cars sitting at the shop after that happened, so that was $200 to get out. I should have just let the yard keep it.
So all in all. $4500 for the car, plus another $6k in repairs to have a car on the road for maybe 4months. Atleast i was young, and learned a huge lesson out of all of this. Don't buy a car from a shady used car dealership, then bring it to an even shadier mechanic.

95 Talon TSi. Bent valves

If I had known then what I know now, I would have re-built that head...

Some guy with a really nice EVO 8 MR bought it in it's non-running condition for 2 grand.

Nothing but Subarus from then on out...

Perhaps. But who says we were the first owner to mistreat the cars? I'm sure many people bought used, bought without research, were "stupid kids" at the time who did dumb **** to their car (name me one kid who hasn't - we don't all come with a car maintenance manual...or the sense to use it! Lol). And there are the justifiably crap car makes and models on this thread. Some models were just junk. Not every car can be a Subie

Pontiac Grand Prix. Freaking TEAL. Battery was under the windshield wiper reservoir, and that was under a brace that had to be removed to get to any of it. Terrible design, everything electrical broke, that car was a raging piece of ****. Paint was coming off, interior smelled like afro sheen from day one, man it was a crappy car but looking back it could have been worse for a first car.... I guess.

2001 kia rio! i got it for free from my boss, but it smelled of nasty foot cheese and had been sitting outside for ages. i got it running for a few hundred doll hairs (most of which was spent on upholstery cleaner) all the wheel bearings were shot. the rotors were rusted to the hubs (beat with a a sledge hammer after torching red hot. still nothing) had to get junkyard knuckles.secondary cat clogged and left me on the turn pike. shortly after punching it out the trans blew. rebuilt the trans and then the primery cat clogged which was part of the headers. 800$ to replace, not available used, traded in on my wrx for 300 big ones.got me from a to b cheaper than driving my truck. but man what a hooptie. it had a top speed of 70mph, and going up a hill? forget about it.....

Ok this car was crappy but not through my own neglect. My first car was 1982 Ford mustang GLX. it had a 4 banger, 4spd mt, POWDER BABY BLUE (NO CLEAR COAT), White interior more like yellow and a 2barrel carb. It took me 2 months in the NY snow to get it running then another 3 to fix all the other issues. ran for a month then crapped out on me so i sold it for 500 well lets just say i broke even off the thing.

I think a separate thread should be started "your first car, youth and ignorance= ?" And share stories of how we were all irresponsible, didn't have any respect, hormone raging younguns. Should be some good laughs in there

Sadly all the cars I had when I was a dumb teenager were waay better than the 2002 Explorer I just got rid of.

My parents bought it new off the lot and drove it for the first 70k miles then when I graduated college they gave it to me and I put about 50k miles full of trouble on it.
They bought the extended warranty through Ford that went up to 125kmiles/10yrs, it was a good investment because....
65k - transmission went
70k - gas cap light and check engine light came on (shop still cant fix it)
72k - rear end went
80k - 6-disc changed crapped out
85k - alternator crapped out
90k - rear wheel bearings failed catostrophically, no warning, just went so the rear end, axles, coils, struts, UCA, LCA and rotors all had to be replaced
95k - front wheel bearings
100k - 4x4 control module went
105k - blend air door actuator went (no heat)
118k - I sold the POS to a local dealer, I gave him full disclosure and all the supporting paperwork.
My parents maintained that truck at the local Ford dealer and when it became mine I took over the maintenance, and that truck was taken care of, but it just kept breaking. I don't even think I covered everything that went wrong with that truck, there was just too much.

Now I drive a 2006 WRX wagon, lets hope this one makes the long haul.

1992 ford Taurus my grandfather gave me back in 2002. It sat for over 6 years and when we looked in the engine rats had built a nest. Surprisingly it started right up with old gas once we replaced the battery. I drove this car for about 3 years before having the money to really upgrade. The distributor gear went out 3 times during the winter leaving me stranded. It was forever known as the gallopy.

Something about those old Taurus'. Those things were like tanks. As I commented above about my 93 wagon. Took a beatin and kept on rolling. But sitting for 6 years and only needing a battery is pretty impressive lol

Worst car I ever owned was a 1992 Honda Civic sedan. It was pretty used up when I got it. It had over 200,000 miles on it. No door handle on the passenger door. I had to strap that door shut because it would open up when I turn right. The HVAC controls were broken, and I couldn't change the fan speed.

The worst part was that it sometimes wouldn't start, but eventually I could get it to start. It finally quit altogether after I had it 6 months.

But when it was running it was fun to drive.

The other crappy car I had was a 1985 Chevy Sprint. I think it needed new seals or something because it was leaking radiator fluid into the oil. I only kept the car for about a year, then got a 1988 Chevy Cavalier.

The Cavalier was actually pretty good up until I hit 100,000 miles. By the time I got rid of that, it was running on three cylinders. I think the brake rotors were warped as well. I put about 189,000 miles on it.

1993 Honda Del Sol - mods (if you can even call them that haha): Huge fart can axel back that was basically duct taped on, ZEX nitrous kit that somehow didn't blow me up, and two 12" Kickers in the trunk that made it sound like I was dragging cans down the street. Ahhhh those were the days. Amazing how much you learn growing up and can look back and just laugh

It was some what riced out when I bought it. I removed Autozone fog lights, fat and terrible "racing" pedals, blue bulbs, etc. I added rear mud flaps, OE fog lights, and planned on a few other things but sold it to help purchase the WRX.
