Default Mad Max movies . . . what happened and when?

the first mad max, nobody's wearing sporting goods or driving oil drums welded onto old car frames. there's also some semblance of law and order (albeit wild-west style) and civilization.

i know that nuclear holocaust plays into the series, but did it happen between the first movie and The Road Warrior, or did it occur before Mad Max and we just witness the disintegration of society through the three movies?

if there's title cards/narration that explains this in one of the movies, i apologize.

and is it me, or does the Night Rider's gang seem kinda, well, gay?

its been since forever since i've seen the first one, but I saw the 2nd and 3rd last fall on cinemax. I would guess it happened before the first one and the decay followed throughout the series.

the first one is on AMC right now . . . and it struck me how, even though i dig all three, i don't really understand the timeline of the war or whatever it is that happened.

IIRC, there's mention of it in the beginning of the 2nd one. I think the whole world was experiencing what was going on. Thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna go DVR it.

Nice choice of films AC, I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who's pondered that

I'm waiting for that to come on AMC after Predator... Thankfully it's not going to be the dubbed over "english" version. The opening 15 minutes is the greatest car chase scene of all time IMHO, it's just one great line after another then BOOM! No more Night Rider and flousie.

I agree with you though that in the time between Mad Max and the Road Warrior sociey has taken quite a rapid fall but whatever, I can forgive, it's just amovie after all. It's certainly better than trying to figure out how The Gyrocaptian manages to turn up in the third movie when he's supposed to be leading the Northern Tribe to paradise. I guess he must have found a better deal than the blonde along the way.

If I recall correctly, it's been some time since I saw any of the series, but it's the following:

MadMax = Post apocalypse pseudo-anarchal society
Road Warrior = Decade later after Mad Max has been out wandering the desert surviving following total anarchal collapse of society
Third movie (I forget the name) = Same time frame as Part 2

I used to be all up into this flick back in HS.
I think it was post nuclear fallout (not in AUS) that kicked everything off to hell.

I'm sure there's 1K sites online with propeller head film students who have studied every frame, backwards.

well..... it's like this. When we were younger, I'm assuming that we are relatively close in age, we had not developed gaydar. It is not until you get a little older and plunge into puberty do you start to fine tune the gaydar.

Triton is dead on.

Back in those days there was gay and there was mainstream metal.
Those biker dudes were metal.
Have you seen the latest promo photo for Judas Priest...uber-gay but folks thought that crap was cool back in the day of Ferris Bueller.

Man times were simpler & clearer back then...

I think the original(Mad Max) was set in a futuristic, pseudo-anarchical Australia. He was a police officer, they had a jail, etc, he was headed on vacation to the country with his wife and kid etc, remember? So there was still an organized society per se, but since the focus was on highway killings and the biker gang wreaking havoc it seemed more out of control than it probably was elsewhere, say in Melbourne etc.

Then the Road Warrior(Mad Max 2), and Beyond Thunderdome were set after the apocalypse.

This ain't one body's story.
It's the story of us all.

We got it mouth-to-mouth.
You got to listen it and 'member.

'Cause what you hears today
you got to tell the birthed tomorrow.

I'm looking behind us now. . .

. . .across the count of time. . .

. . .down the long haul,
into history back.

I sees the end what were the start.

It's Pox-Eclipse, full of pain!

And out of it were birthed
crackling dust and fearsome time.

It were full-on winter. . .

. . .and Mr. Dead chasing them all.

But one he couldn't catch.
That were Captain Walker.

He gathers up a gang, takes to the air
and flies to the sky!

So they left their homes,
said bidey-bye to the high-scrapers. . .

. . .and what were left of the knowing,
they left behind.

Some say the wind just stoppered.

Others reckon it were a gang
called Turbulence.

And after the wreck. . .

. . .some had been jumped by Mr. Dead. . .

. . .but some had got the luck,
and it leads them here.

One look and they's got the hots for it.
They word it "Planet Earth. "

And they says, "We don't need
the knowing. We can live here. "

"We don't need the knowing.
We can live here. "

Time counts and keeps counting.

They gets missing what they had.

They get so lonely for the
high-scrapers and the video.

And they does the pictures so they'd
'member all the knowing that they lost.

'Member this?

Tomorrow-morrow Land!

'Member this?

The River of Light!

'Member this?

Skyraft!

'Member this?

Captain Walker!

'Member this?

Mrs. Walker!

Then Captain Walker picked them
of an age and good for a long haul.

They counted twenty, and that were them.
The great leaving.

"Rescue party departed
at first light. . .

. . .Ied by Flight Captain G.L. Walker. "

"May God have mercy on our souls. "

They said bidey-bye to them
what they'd birthed.

And from the nothing
they looked back. . .

. . .and Captain Walker hollered,
"Wait, one of us will come. "

"Wait, one of us will come. "

The film opens "a few years from now" in Australia, in a dystopian future where fuel is scarce and law and order has begun to break down.

Mad Max tells a story of breakdown of society, murder and vengeance.
