Default Ford Fiesta U.S.-spec gets caught in Mexican factory

Quote:
What is reported to be the coming U.S.-spec Ford Fiesta has been photographed during assembly in Mexico, and the minor changes we can glean so far center around the grille. Compared to its European counterpart, the American version gets a much chunkier front end which has pushed the leading edge of the hood back. The Ford emblem is now completely surrounded by the front clip.

Below that, the central opening is larger, ringed with chrome, and the bisecting bar on the Euro version has been moved up and fitted with a U.S. license plate holder. Outside, the single fog light has been reworked into a giant, glass covered alien eye. Make no mistake it's still hot, and we still can't wait to see it when it's unveiled at the LA Auto Show next month.

Not liking the sedan. Like the Yaris - the car is just too small for the body style.

Looks like they lost the projector headlamps... Penny pinching tactics are the worst.

Might sound stupid, but that was the reason I didn't replace my Impreza with a Fit, no projectors.

$10/ piece projectors to actually see at night? Like all their other vehicles have, like the global platform it came from.

Ugh, guess I'll have to call my buddy in Scotland to send over some EDM Projectors in the future.

1) Take 1 good car
2) Change it to make it look crappy
3) Complain that no-one buys the car
4) ????
5) No profit

It still looks fine, stop crying.

The platform is going to be great, and who know we still may get the projectors as an option...just relax.

Even in Europe the basic Fiesta comes without projectors.

People are so quick to judge without even seeing the final product.

I was disappointed as well to see the non-projector lights. Not sure why manufacturers don't know there are many of us willing to pay for hid headlights.

How is this such a hard concept to grasp? It's like when you are cooking a meal, and somebody who has had it before is leaning over your shoulder "don't forget the basil....don't forget the basil... you're gonna use basil right?" Yes just relax, it's on it's way. Nobody know's what this will look like when it's done, just relax and let them finish .

front is not the problem...it's that trunk in the rear.

I don't car if they have a sedan, but bring us the hatch (3 AND 5 door) as well.

The front bumper, grill, and headlights change and all of the sudden a car many praised on these boards (with almost 0% actually having driven one) becomes something that no one wants? (Still no one has driven one)

I am glad I dont have a job that requires me to satisfy the american car buying public...

I'd take a hatch - don't really care for that sedan.

I don't quite understand the point of making the lower grille "opening" appear smaller. I can understand that they thought the euro fascia, designed for euro plates, would look funny with 'merican plates mounted to it.. but not funny enough to wreck the whole look.

Something about counting something before something has something.

touche` my friend, touche`.

Well, I'm still being hopeful. Even though I have zero interest in this car, I'd still like to hope that the chef watched Gordon Ramsey a few times, and learned that the UK did the dish better, and that he should follow suit (sp?). I hope you are wrong, but the more I think about it, I bet you're right.

When I replaced my WRX with the Fit, projectors were the last thing on my mind. The reflectors that come in the Fit, light the road VERY well, based on my experience....and works as well as the projectors in the WRX.

Of course having MORE space and even more importantly, more USABLE space than the WRX, while yielding nearly 40mpg consistently, is not a bad thing, especially when the whole thing costs just $16K. Even though not a WRX beater from the handling perspective, the Fit's handling is not too shabby either.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that, if that's the assembly line at the Mexico factory, that each one of these cars is going to cost about $100k? I don't see the typical parts and automated assembly robots that tend to keep prices low on a high volume car.

Those are probably pre-production mock-ups.

It's a cover-up. Making people think they're building fiestas when really, at night, the factory is used to build warthogs for the UNSC to fight the Convenant.
