Default Totsubo front license plate mount (Report)

Hi Guys,

2 weeks ago I got a ticket for not having a front license plate. It was 125$, so I decided to find a solution for that problem without drilling the front bumper. I found Totsubo front license plate mount brackets, which convert the JDM holes to US holes.

South Coast Performance - Totsubo License plate mount - (Powered by CubeCart)

Some pics from the installation process.

awesome... too bad when i got my front bumper replaced the idiots at the body shop drilled my license plate in...also just a thought... save $35 shipping... and drill your own holes into your license plate to fit the JDM holes? maybe that's against the law... but i doubt they would give you any trouble if it doesn't look like a hack job on your license plate...

Why did you have to get JDM converters at all...? I think I'm still missing a big piece of the story here. Why didn't you just drill the USDM holes and put a US plate there?

*looks at tiny pic* is that a JDM plate?

Yea....I just used double sided foam tape...... Holds strong through 4 months in and doesn't show any signs of failure at cruising speeds.

You paid $40 to put holes in your bumper?

I assume his bumper already had JDM spec holes (mine did). They are spaced wider than the standard USA plate holes. So the adaptor he bought screws into the JDM holes and allows him to screw his US plate into the adaptor.

Or I could be we way off.

I had this adapter on my 05 and loved it. I cant beleive people were having a hard time understanding what this adapter was for. $35 for having a properly mounted license plate without having to drill holes in the bumper of your $35k car sounds like a good deal to me.

WTF? My bugeye has US spec holes in the front bumper, no other drilling required for my front plate. What's the reason that his car has JDM spec holes? JDM bumper?

my autozone may be different. but the bracket i found there is big, obtrusive and ugly. I'd rather spend the $35 on summin that is quick and easy like those.

they might be a little bit overpriced. but better than drilling holes in your bumper, and better looking than autozone brackets. oh, and in WA, if your talking about the angle bracket (just assuming). then its illegeal and i know peopel who have gotten angled license plate tickets as well

This is a good option if you don't want to drill holes into your front bumper or if you want to have the plate mounted off of the cover itself and not cause any further damage to it.

My car too has the wider spaced holes from the factory and at the time I purchased the car, I let the dealer put the USDM holes in to mount the plate because I did not know of any similar options to mount the plate without drilling holes. Shortly thereafter, I discovered the Totsubo plate mounting brackets and installed their no longer produced folding plate frame.

If however you don't see the value in this product then of course do not purchase it. But if you have a suggestion to an alternative, then state it as such.

i just got this and i don't really see a purpose to the black part you stick in the bumper. is it just to line it up? or do other peoples bumpers have something that actually secures them?

The black part expands when you screw the set screw in it.
Search for "well nuts" for further understanding.

No. They are similar in idea to a riv-nut. They are installed as a "just in case". Why? Sometimes the glue from the foam-tape does give out and the rubber riv-nut is there to prevent it (the mount) from falling away from the bumper cover completely (even if the plate is attached to it and still attached to the other mount).

Funny... mine are the sole thing holding everything up - I didn't get any tape on mine.
