Default Really strange coolant problem!

Nasioc, I need help. My WRX has recently come up with a strange problem. The fans will kick in, and they will never stop, until I shut off the engine. When I start the engine again, the fans do not turn on for a while.

Sometimes the fans turn on when I am in motion also.
I also noticed that the top radiator hose will be hot, while the bottom hose that goes back to the block and thermostat is cold. What could this be?

-The system was properly burped a year ago and this has only recently started happening
- New thermostat installed a year ago
- I recently had the overflow tank out and refilled it with water
- When the fans are on, they are usually blowing out coldish air from the radiator, but the top of the radiator is HOT
-The upper radiator hose seems to be swelling a little when it's hot
-The dash temp gauge doesn't show that the car is overheating
-Oil on dipstick is clean
-Coolant in turbo tank is not oily, aka only coolant
-No white smoke. (steam when warming up the car though?)

Things I will do:
-Check the thermostat
-Run some coolant system flush through it
-????

Any other ideas?

Sounds like the thermostat isn't opening... it's on the water pump, so the lower hose would stay cold if it's not flowing coolant..

Same goes for the upper hose swelling... it's not circulating so you are building pressure in the system, because the water/coolant in the block IS hot enough to boil..

How come the engine didn't come close to overheating though, if the thermostat isn't opening? And when I have the cap off of the turbo coolant reservoir, and I rev a little from the throttle cable, I can see the coolant get pulled down like it is circulating.

the water pump is still running... an i am pretty sure that should be always circulating to keep the turbo cool... the thermostat flows coolant through the radiator when it is opened u should check that before u blow a line from built up pressure.. u dont want ur engine to be like this
