Default New Windshield

Hey guys, safety and IM are coming up next month and I have a crack running horizontally across my entire windshild. I was just going to pull a random shop out of the phone book and wondered if anyone had a suggestion on a good, high quality place that won't charge an arm and a leg for a new front windshiled (05 RS). thx

I recommend Safelite and recommend against Technaglass.

Actually I have/had a buddy that works for safelite. I am not sure if he still works there, but he always hooked me up.

Glassmasters will write off my $100 deductible, so they essentially come out and replace it for free.

5 times in 2 years.

Hasn't cost me a penny.

Safelite does a great job of standing behind their warranty. I had a Techna Glass replacement on my pre-Subie vehicle and the thing was so pitted and scarred within six months I could barely see clearly out of it.

When I bought my first WRX it had a cracked windshield. Even though I didn't bill my insurance, I decided to try try Safelite because they came so highly recommended (by USAA). Eleven months after they replaced the glass it developed a stress fracture near the rearview mount. A tech drove to my work, took one look at the crack and said "yep... our fault. I'll replace it for free."

You may pay a bit more up front for glass from Safelite but I feel it pays for itself over the long run. Plus, I believe that good glass is critical for safety and thus not a place where one should cut corners.

I would have to say that techniglass is terrible. I had the rear windshield in my jeep replaced, first they came to meet me at my work and they brought the wrong glass... So I had to reschedule, then they installed it wrong and I had to take it to one of their locations to get it fixed. They cut the rubber trim in several places and tried to glue it back together with the sealant(Looks like garbage BTW). After their halfass job I had to then go home and scrub the sealant off the paint that they had smeared all over. And to top it all off.. Upon removal of the glass they broke it and decided that they didn't want to clean up the thousands of pieces of glass that filled the back half of my jeep...

Thanks for the info everyone. I might have ended up at Techniglass solely because theirs one near my house so I'll def stay away from them and hit up either Safelite or (Gl)assmasters.

Update:
I just called around to a few places and it looks like Safelite is the cheapest, so I'm glad to hear that their highly recommended on RMIC.

Price breakdown:
Safelite - $168.95 (includes windshield and moldings + labor + lifetime warranty)
Diamond - $210.00 (includes windshield and moldings + labor)
Techna Glass - $173.00 (includes windshield and moldings + labor + 12 month warranty)
