So you can not get a six speed in just the standard TL,you have to get the top of line.

you dont have to get top of the line, you just have to get sh-awd...meaning you can still opt out of the tech package and larger rims + summer tires.

If I were old, big and fat, and had big and fat kids, I'd be all over it. My fat fingers prolly wouldnt be able to grip the shifter, though.

How much is that without the tech package.

I love the way Hondas shift.I can not believe how well it did in the comparisons. The manual knocks close to a second of the zero to sixty time.

OMG that thing is HIDEOUS! I didn't know it was that bad looking.....a V-shaped rear end makes me stabby. Reminds me of a certain pontiac and some buick.

Default Acura Adds Six-Speed Manual Gearbox to 2010 TL SH-AWD Lineup, Priced from $42,385

Quote:
Nearly a year after making the announcement on the development of a new six-speed manual gearbox option for its 2010 Acura TL lineup, Honda has finally launched the vehicle onto the U.S. market. The new manual transmission is available exclusively on the range-topping SH-AWD model that pairs Acura's all-wheel drive system with a 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 305HP and 273 lb-ft of peak torque, instead of the entry-level, front-wheel drive model's 280HP 3.5-liter V6.

"The new manual transmission equipped TL SH-AWD allows the enthusiast driver to take full advantage of the performance of Acura's SH-AWD system," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales, "Not only is the new 6-speed manual transmission model the best performing Acura TL ever, it is the top handling performer among every vehicle in its class."

The newly developed close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox is said to be approximately 110 lbs lighter than the five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission.

And since the manual model is aimed at enthusiasts, Acura tweaked the TL SH-AWD's chassis by upgrading the suspension and steering wheel system.

Along with the specially tuned coil spring and shock absorber rates for flatter cornering with reduced pitching motions under acceleration and braking -or so Acura claims, the front dampers on the manual model incorporate 5-percent more compression damping to improve turn-in feel and generate 14-percent less high speed compression damping better ride quality.

Other improvements for the manual model include the modified Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and EPS system as well as the firmer engine and transmission bushings.

While Acura has yet to disclose performance figures, the automaker did announce that the TL SH-AWD with the 6-speed manual gearbox returns an EPA estimated 18mpg city and 26mpg highway, which is 1mpg better in both cases than the automatic version.

The manual model keeps the same pricing as the five-speed automatic SH-AWD at $42,385 when combined with the Technology Package and at $43,385 with the Technology pack and high performance tires. Just so you know, the above prices do not include taxes, license or an $810 destination and handling charge.

I simply cannot get past that horrible rear. The previous generation of the TL looked slick. What made Acura to go back and re-design it into this abominaition ?

Mechanically, the current generation is an improvement, especially with the SH-AWD, 6-spd manual and the 305HP engine. But the aesthetics are the deal-killer, as far as I am concerned.

The TSX on the other hand, has managed to stave off the horrible rear-end treatmetn, even though the nasty grill did make its way into it, along with the RL.

Meh. With the weak V6, the robo-handling and the cover-your-eyes styling, this thing's a dog.

G37S FTW.

Well maybe a TSX Type S will sevice, the TL on the other hand would be nice with a DSG type unit.

Here's the problem..

Ms. Christensen is a 28-year-old exterior designer for Acura. Her baby was the ZDX, a sleek, genre-defying four-door crossover. It was the first unique product from Acura’s new, dedicated design studio in Torrance, Calif. And this was its world premiere at the 2009 New York auto show, which opens to the public Friday.

That's quite a leap there Bob. I have no idea where you got that from. He only stated the designer was the problem and nothing about being a woman as the problem. Nice reading comprehension there Chicken Little.

No leap at all. He pictured a girl and the car. Without further clarification from the poster, it's an easy conclusion to draw.

The auto version of the new awd TL seems like a relative dog. high 14s in the 1/4 mile and a 97 mph trap speed... that was good several years ago, but not so much now. A comparable bmw is a full sec faster and traps about 7-9 mph faster
