Default Moving to Utah

Hey my name is Tony and me and my family are going to be moving to the Salt Lake area. I am married with two kids who love subaru. I am planning on attending BYU next fall to be an engineer. Just trying to get a felling on what the subie crowd is like in that area. Let me know what the best and worst places to live and for kids to go to school. I also do a lot racing, drag, rally cross and auto cross. Want to know if there are any tracks in the area. Any help would be great thank you very much. Also is there any sonic yellow wrx's out there?

Welcome and there are plenty of tracks to race at. We have a drag strip and of course Miller Motorsports Park. Our auto-x season runs from about April until October so we get in almost 20 events during the year. Unfortunately our rallycross scene is pretty small due to lack of venues but it's fun none the less. There are lots of open track days, SCCA days and lap battles to keep you satisfied out at MMP. I think I've only seen a few sonic bugeyes around here.

Here's our SCCA site: http://forums.utahscca.com/

i'll let the orem/provo guys chime in on good areas to move to there, but you shouldn't have a hard time. for tracks, there is rocky mountain raceway (http://www.rmrracing.com/) for drag, about half an hour(ish) from provo. miller motorsports park (http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/) in toole, which is about 1.5 hours(ish) from provo. they put on some autocrosses but we all use it mainly for road racing. there are more autocross events throughout the valley but i don't have much info on those.

I recently moved to SLC. I would say have a list of places to check out, but def get a feel for the area before you settle on a place. It took me two days to find the perfect place to live.

I commute to Provo every day and it's really nice down there. But I am not LDS and from a major metro city, so I opted to live in SLC. The drive is not bad at all. Every one who lives in Utah doesn't know what traffic, a commute or crime is.

Hit me up on PM if you need any help.

There is going to be a few snow cross events this year that should be pretty fun.

And yes. Miller Motorsports Park.. A state of the art 4.5mi long race track.

I forgot to mention that I will be in the SLC for a week in November for Thanksgiving. So if you see a really dirt yellow wrx loaded down wave hi. And if there is anything going on that week please let me know. I thank everyone so far who has replied my wife is very surprised how fast and great your subie community. We are in the chicago area and there tends to be a lot of jerks in this area. Thank you again.

WELCOME! i like provo... i wouldn't know anything about where to live for schools for kids. i grew up in Alpine/Highland area about 30 minutes north of BYU.. it's a nice place, right in the corner of the mountains with an amazing canyon to drive up any time you like. also there is pleasant grove, and american fork... they are nice too.

Why would you go to BYU for engineering. The U is way better.

U>BYU

I would try to stay up near SLC. Unless your LDS going south of the point of the mountain is no fun.

I think its funny how everyone knocks on byu on here. The U is way more expensive if you are from out of state for starters. Both have a lot of great programs. It really depends on what you want to spend on school and where you want to live. If you are going into business for example, BYU kills the U, but that is just one example.

U=BYU they are both ABET accredited for their engineering programs, neither one will get you more money when you graduated. They are not an Brown or Harvard, so it really won't matter. Unless you are talking about braggin rights in football, then who cares....

You will like BYU they have LOTS of money for their school programs. Nicer facilities, Nicer equiptment. The U is more liberal so you get more than an education there

If I was doing it all again and had a family I would prefer BYU and living close to campus. If I was single I would go to the U. Better party life!!!!

BYU is expensive if you are not mormon. If you are mormon, its cheaper.
And BYU does have a pretty good business masters program, but I would never go there, ever. Never. Never. I would get freaking pissed everytime I see a girl wearing shorts that go down to there knees.

I have lived in Salt Lake my whole life and have never wanted to move out of state so badly until now like 6 years ago there werent half as many people in Salt Lake, it was nice, but now after the Olympics in 2002 it has been non stop out of staters coming here. not to mention the floods of mexicans that have come here because they dont get noticed or something. In my opinion Canada is sounding better everyday. I cannot believe how dumb people truely are especially when it comes to driving, just wait for winter and everyone goes 25 no matter how bad it is snowing. I also am not and have never been a mormon, thank god if there is one!! but welcome anyway I hope you have better experiances with people than I have. also girls here love to play mind games and if you are not a jock then you dont matter, me being a skater.

Why would you go to either? Colorado is better for engineering!
