Default Which to go with?

I know this is not the place for a clutch question but I think this is were the best people to answer it are. ARG said he is running a Cutchmasters stage I 255 hp @ 8 PSI supercharged. I was thinking of a Stage II. I felt that the stage III was to exstreme for my goals. But based on ARG I might be fine with Stage I. My project car is going to be a 2.2L I am going to be running the Legacy turbo and I don't plan on exceding 9psi do to the price restraints of exceeding such levels. What is the proper clutch for such a setup?

What do you mean a 2.2L in an RS? Are you putting a bored out WRX motor in it? Or are the legacy motors also 2.2L, don't know crap about anything but the WRX and RS, no legacy's and stuff.

Hmmmm...... never heard of an Impreza L. But since its N/A from the start then I would say 9psi maybe a little too much without better pistons and heads. I would try 5 or 6 psi until then. The stage one clutch will do fine. Even 9psi probably wouldn't get you to 255HP but it might. Also keep in mind about your tranny.... are you auto or manual?

Actually I think 9psi should get you enough to smoke some REXes out there. Also with 2.2L engine you already have a lower compresion than you would on a 2.5L.

My best advice would be, get the stage 1 cluch. You want to be the clutch to be a weak link not the tranny.

Yeah, 9psi would get you up there with stock and close to stock wrx's BUT, your engine would not last long at 9psi. THose heads and pistions are not even really meant for a turbo. 5-7psi would be what I would run. I wouldn't go above 5.5psi for a daily driving
vehical. At 9psi and high RPM's I honestly believe that all you would do is detonate and eventualy blow her up. About the clutch, I agree totaly, just like i said before. You want a little slip in the clutch, just to take some of the abuse off of the tranny. I wouldn't get any more than the stage one clutch, you won't need it. If you pushing so much HP that your stage one just doesn't grab, then you should consider new clutch and gear sets, but thats a long ways down the road and don't worry about that now. Would you consider going with a different turbo? A better and more efficent turbo will allow you to run higher levels of boost safer. I would really think about the stock WRX turbo.... you can get'em used for like $200-$300 with low mileage.

Greg, I don't think you understand what he's saying. He's NOT turbo'ing an EJ25. It'll be an EJ22(can't remember the letter for this model, g or t?). I'm assumimg you're getting one of the turbo legacy blocks? I'm not sure how different they are from the NA EJ22's, but I don't recall people really using them much, especially when those 2.2's can be purchased so cheap, even new.

If he's referring to the EJ22 turbo, he'll have no problems running it at those parameters. A number have done it. You face similar fuel issues, to the EJ25, but everything else is a little easier to deal with, it seems.

Default Help!

Guys most of you are missing the boat. Greg, the car is a Manual that's why I am asking about a clutch. The block I am going to do is a 2.2 NA block as metioned above. I know 9psi pushing it but like I said that's the tops I would run. Wac is running that on the same engine and I believe with about 200 hp and torque at the crank. So the general thought is stage one?

whats the price difference? if its not much just go for stage 2, and then if you ever decied to go for more power you clutch is already ready to handle it.

So, without debating the existance of the Impreza L...

Has anyone ever compiled a list of clutches available to us with tq ratings?

After more research on the subject it appears the only differance between Stage I and Stage II is that Stage II is Extra long life street system other than that they both have same holding power.
