Most likely has an air to water intercooler off an older legacy turbo from japan or something.

There's a dude on the main page that did a wrx swap into a bug where he stacked the intercooler and radiator and reverse hinged his hood to act as a scoop. Very cool set up

There is a company that sells the bellhousing adapter for modifying the vw for a subaru power plant. I was thinking about this for my 67 baja.

Small Car Performance does some pretty cool stuff with Subies and subaru parts. You want to swap a 5-speed into an SVX. Give them a shout.
