Default ‘Performance Car of the Year 2009′ award

Quote:
The Lotus Evora beat 29 other cars to be named as Performance Car of the Year 2009 by Car Magazine. It faced intense competition from very popular marques such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. A champion from Le Mans Series, Darren Turner, put the car through test drive on different roads in Britain.

Objective testing was conducted at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, where the cars displayed their maximum performance qualities. Lotus Evora is a mid-engined 2+2 seater sports coupe. A 3.5-liter V6 powers the car, developing 280ps and 342Nm of torque. With a car weight of only 1382kg, the Evora delivers an astonishing performance and what Turner claims is a unique experience behind the steering wheel.

The Evora is able to accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and is able to reach a top speed of 261km/h. The fuel consumption is jaw-droppingly low for a sports car at 8.7 liter/100km – Combined Cycle and 6.5 liters/100 km on the highway. Aside from its other superior characteristics, Lotus has always prided itself for the handling of their sports cars.

But it brought the Evora to a new level. Chris Chilton, Assistant Editor at Car Magazine, echoed our amazement.. He said, “There are executive saloons that don’t ride this well, supercars that don’t turn in so crisply, and surely no car on the planet steers like this.” The Lotus Evora certainly deserves this award.

When converting to the US system, I get a combined cycle fuel consumption of 27.19 mpg, and a highway consumption of 36.39 mpg. Pretty darn impressive!!!

test cycles are not comparable. the Prius gets something absurd like 80 mpg in their system iirc even accounting for Imperial vs US gallons.

I accounted for Imperial vs US gallons in my calcs, but it makes sense that the test cycles are different. I wonder what it'll be rated at in the US? The Evora really lights my fire!!!

I think it's an awesome car. No, not as hard-edged as the Elise or Exige, but that's by-design. I'd buy an Evora in a heartbeat.

The Evora is the car the NSX should've become.

Stupid Honda.

Do car mags from the UK ever NOT choose a home grown winner? Not knocking the Evora, but it seems to be quite an obvious trend.

Interesting videos. Dude wasn't getting on the throttle hard enough or early enough in the STI. Might as well have not had diffs.

Be sure to watch the start of the Panamera video.

[edit]Scratch that.. watch the whole thing. He keeps getting the paddle shifters mixed up and starts cussing it around 5:30

I think they do... I remember a while ago... years before the WRX came to the US... They voted the 22B (I think) car of the century. Even if it wasn't the 22B, it was definitely an Impreza WRX/STI
