Default Rookie looking to compete in Stock, but Canadian rules...

So,

The rulebook is a little different up here than most of you are used to. But racing is racing and I hope I can get some advice.

The system for mods here works as follows: Authorized (go ahead and do it if you want), Restricted (Can do it, with the use of prep points), Prohibited (Well, just don't do it )

Only thing really authorized in stock is:
  • Whatever camber I can get with just an alignment
  • Different brake pads
  • Replacment of shocks (but same style and no modification of mounting location, perch etc. Bump stops can be modified though. Can interchange gas and hydraulic)
  • Any DOT tires. Tire width can be increased, but the shoulder cannot extend past the fender. No changes allowed to wheel size.
  • CBE allowed (I have Perrin)
  • Replacement wheels (must be OEM dimensions and offset withing 1/4" of OEM)
For Restricted mods I get two "prep" points. I can get a third point by installing a fire extinguisher, which I intend to do. I can spend these on the following:
  • Removal of rear seats (1pt)
  • Lighter relocated battery (1pt)
  • Addition, substituion, or modifcation of any part of a front or rear suspension anti swar bar system, or tower braces per front or rear (1pt each, I'm HOPING that each bar plus endlinks counts as one)
  • Different sized wheels (width and/or diameter) (1pt)
  • Airbag removal (1pt)
  • R Compounds (1pt)
  • Removal of emission control equipment (1 pt)
With all that in mind I had planned to squeeze as much camber as possible on the front, fit the extinguisher, take FSB and RSB. Hawk Pads. Then get a bit of experience under my belt before looking at R compounds.

Car will still be DD, and as yet don't have the funds for R's and wheels. So will run OEM Dunlops for now. If funds allow in future, will take R's and wheels, if not, then Direzzas on OEM rims.

Anyone care to offer advice?

Thanks,

with those rules, get an alignment, set toe to 0 all around, max out negative camber up front. get in the car and just drive.

don't worry about anything else until you're comfortable with the car. once there, decide on what you want to improve.

Where in Ontario?

For stock, best 2 mods are R comps and RSB (Shocks if cash)

For SS, shocks, springs, tune, sway bars, bushings.

SP, everything + better turbo.

This is very general, let us know what your goals are, location and budget

Thanks for the input mate. In Peterborough area, and the budget ain't too healthy

Will be keeping her in stock for sure, and I can't stretch to R-Comps + rims for the forseeable future. Sway bars depend on how the Christmas bonus comes out like!

From what I can figure, and correct me if I'm wrong, but if decide to go street rubber for now, I can use my two prep points for FSB & RSB (I assume aftermarket endlinks doesn't count as extra prep points?).

Then, maybe next season, if I can budget it, I can carry an extinguisher to free up a prep point and spend it on R-comps?

For now, I'm completely novice as far as Auto-X goes and Nhat's advice is making alot of sense.

I'm not in Canada but I did start in stock here and basically followed nhat's advice for the first year. You learn a lot in that year

I agree with the alignment idea.

Does Peterborough follow CASC's ruleset? If so, endlinks are fine.

To be honest, go RSB and drive - save your last point for something else.

I'll be in Peterborough next summer, the event this summer for the provincials was a blast.

Catless means a Stage 2 tune though, and good chance of boost creep issues in the '09 from what I gather. So, higher class and warranty problems.

Do the alignment and RSB as aross said. Save money for another set of tires and run as many events as possible. You will get better by running more events even without the RSB. Spend your money on entry fees and rubber.
Or just sell the WRX and buy a beat up old Miata and run stock and buy a Mazda 3 for a daily driver. Most Ontario courses are pretty small so the Miata's pretty much own all.

The first section says any DOT tires, but the second section says R tires are 1 point?
