Angry tranny problems

Hey how many of you guys have tranny problems? And do you have a short shifter? Want to know if Continetal is giving you problems with after market mods?

Its not Winslow, it is someone else's car. They are trying to say the problem was caused by the Kartboy short shifter.

I say BULL*****....when short shifters start causing problems I will just quit.

Question

a short shifter causin tranny problems?

Thanks Kato for the free post.

Kato is having problems with tranny noise. Continental claims that the KartBoy short shifter relocates the pivot too high and it comes in contact with the metal bracket that surrounds the tranny hole in turn causing the transmission noise. I would agree but why does it happen in other gears too? With the KartBoy, first and third cause the linkage to come real close to the metal bracket. When the engine is under load the engine moves causing the trannsmision to move. This is when the linkage hits the metal bracket. The only time Kato hears the noise is when he is downshifting ang the transmission winds down. It sounds like gear noise but unusually louder when compared to my car. The stock shifter has some extra metal and is filled with rubber or some kind of compound that is supposed to cut down on noise and vibration. The KartBoy has none of this so all the noise and vibration is transmitted straight to your hand and into your car. All gears make noise but most common cars have helical cut gears to reduce that noise. I say spend more money on aftermarket parts like an exhaust to drown out the noise or just turn up your radio. They charged him $165.

No, they didn't do anything but tell him to put the stock back on. No, mine doesn't make any noise. I have driven in a few cars with Kartboys and there is a difference in feel and noise. Mainly, I think it is due to the linkage either being over-torqued or not lubed.

I will have to go for a ride in Jasons car.

I have never heard anything from all the Kartboy installs I have done...not to say that it could not be happening.

But I agree with Winslow, get an exhaust and you will not have to worry about hearing it.

Continental Subaru told him the Kartboy SS was causing the noise and then charged him $160 for telling him. How can a shortshifter cause a noise in the tranny?? It sounds like dirt or metal grinding around in the tranny. I think everyone should email Continental Subaru and then forward SOA about the way they use aftermarket parts as a cause then using it as an excuse for deficiencies in the WRX. In other words since you put in an aftermarket part it cause our weak and cheap tranny to break!

You probably should email your concerns to SOA about the aftermarket parts. You will get a definitive answer on their policy about this issue.

Yes, Contintental s using the aftermarket parts as an excuse not to do warranty work but what can you expect. It will always be a battle to convince them that they should warranty your work. I have taken that responsibility when I changed my parts and wouldn't blame them for not doing the warranty work when I understand their logical analysis. It is very frustrating and it pisses me off when they come up with stupid excuses for failure.

I went down to Continental with Kato and listened to what they were telling him. It was a miscommunication and Kato did get his $160 back. He re-explained the problem with the stock shift stalk in place and they are going to take a look at it next Monday.
