Default Distortion in right speaker after accident

So I got into an accident last month, and finally got my car back yesterday. Everything so far is great mechanically, but I noticed that my right speaker is messed up. Playing a 70 to 90-ish hz test tone it sounds very distorted. Here is my setup and what I've tried to resolve it:

HU: Pioneer Premier 880PRS
Components: Cadence CVL6k
Amp: Cadence TXA300.4

I've tried the following:
  • swap left/right RCA - problem stays on the right
  • replace speaker wire from amp -> x-over - problem persists
  • replace speaker wire from x-over to speaker - problem persists
  • tried a different speaker (Alpine Type-R mid-woofer) - problem persists
  • tried a different amp (Clarion APX2120) - problem persists

This leads me to believe it's the head unit, which I understand is prone to grounding issues. Is there anything else I can try to narrow it down to something I missed? I'm going to be stopping by the place that fixed my car tomorrow morning to talk about getting it fixed through insurance, but I'm not very optimistic in that; the guy who fixed the car is cool, but I don't think insurance will want to hear about how my head unit broke from this:

Any advice would be nice. Thanks

Are the crossovers for the components in the doors?

I'm wondering if something got screwed up in the crossover itself. Doesn't look like you tried swapping the crossovers yet.

I would say either that or the headunit. I have seen decks go bad after accidents, but generally it's the cd load mechanism going off track.

The cross overs are mounted securely in the trunk, and you're right, I didn't even think to try that Thanks for the tip, gonna go try it now before I head off to the body shop...

Good thinking, you win. When I swap the mid-woofer cable from the right cross over to the left, the right speaker plays fine and the left one gets distorted. Thanks!

Ah well, looks like I'm buying new speakers if I can't find a CVL6k crossover, insurance won't cover it Non-OEM parts in an area that wasn't damaged....

well that sucks.

I wonder if you pulled the crossover apart if you could spot the issue with it. (wiring touching each other, something grounding out or resting on the board that shouldn't be)

I had a similar issue with a home amplifier after moving. I pulled it apart and saw that one of the inductors was leaning up against the circuit board and touching a few solder points. I bent it back away from the board and it cleared up the issues.

It's still sort of surprising that the crossover went bad from an impact so far away. Usually they are pretty sturdily built for car applications.

Yeah, that's kind of why I didn't even think about checking it. It's mounted securely in the trunk; I suppose it could just be coincidence, but I find that unlikely...

I'll take it apart later and see if I can find anything unusual, hopefully it's something simple like that, I can't find another set of these for sale anywhere

If all else fails and you can't find a replacement, you could try to contact Cadence and send the crossover(s) in for service. Alot of car audio companies charge a flat rate for servicing a product and it'll probably be cheaper than buying a new crossover/component set.

Yay, contacted Jason Paul (owner of powermaxelectronics.com) who I bought the speakers from about 3 years ago, he can get me a single cross over for ~$40 shipped!
