hey guys you can take topside to pelisipe parkway it will take you out to 129 closer to alcoa buy pass most of the traffic 40east will be lil congested due to the gorge being closed if your traveling between tn and nc you can cut through bristol there is a bypass there into the back side of ashville nc

Well here is the deal I forgot about the time change and if we meet at 3 we will not get alot of time so how does everyone feel about meeting at 12 or 1 it will give us a little extra time. Let me know!!!

My step-dad spent 26 years working in a visitor center on US441 in the Great Smoky Mountains NP. People who are in a hurry wouldn't want to take US441 either.. but they still come into the visitor center asking how long it takes to drive through the park. It's usually faster to drive around it.

People look at maps and say, "hey, this US 441 is a shorter route.. lets take that.." the map doesn't say that it's 35mph the whole way.. and slower if you're behind a motorhome. The same people say, "hey, this US 129 looks it will take the same amount of time as going around the East end of the park... and I bet there's less traffic.. lets go that way."

Sat Nav has done a lot to fix this as it takes speed limits and actual distances into account.. vs people estimating their times based on as-the-bird-flys point-to-point estimation with a map.

My step-dad used to keep a lot off ignorant visitor traffic off 129. "We really want to drive down by this lake and then go see Cades Cove.. we're going to go this way."

"Does anyone in your family get car sick sir? In that case I'd highly recommend not taking 129 around the park, sir."

Sounds like a plan! I'll likely just meet everyone at the Wal-Mart on 129/411. Where I've met people at that Wal-Mart before is in the parking lot on the far left side, towards the road (if you're looking at the store from 129/411). Parking spots always seem plentiful in that area.

By the way, what's the time change you mention? Didn't we just fall back Nov 1st...?

Okay, since we moved it to noon, my gf will not get to go. Is there any way we can move it closer to 3? She is still trying to work something out with work, but so far she can only get out at 3. And since she works at THAT walmart, she will be ready to go when she get off. Hehe, gets off. Anyway, I'll try to update tomorrow, she's still trying.
