Default only thing that's keeping me from using Ubuntu permantly is...

Lack of a truly decent media solution... amarok, rhythm box,... no.

Banshee, banshee, banshee. Check it out. It > rhythmbox > amarok.

The only thing holding me back from full-time ubuntu? PC gaming.

As a happy educated, neutral sitter in the shmancy pay-to-play non-Mac OS vs. Open Source OS world, I advise you to submit your defeat in writing and walk, fast, away from this thread.

OP: Define "media." What do / would you use in Windows? Winamp? iTunes? WMP? What kind of "media solution" are you in search of?

Because Windows 7 has native drivers for just about every piece of hardware on the planet.

I agree. The Ubuntu fanbois are annoying. Their devotion to an OS that has piss poor support for gaming, some hardware, and business productivity software is very confusing. Their only justification is "Its not windows".

It's not windows, and it's free are to totally reasonable justifications. If it does everything you need (internet, buisness applications, and whatever gaming), why would you want to have anything else? My wife has been running an Ubuntu derivative on her netbook for over a year and has no complaints. It "just works" for that application just fine so why in the hell would I want to install Windows 7 on an EeePC?

Because it doesn't do everything you need. If all you're doing is checking email and surfing the web on a netbook then sure, they aren't adequately powered (Intel Atom) do a hell of a lot more than that. I require a reliable laptop to make a living, a living that is made by making computers and networks work for businesses. Not once has an open source OS, despite being free been a better alternative for any of my clients. Good luck running a dentist office, law firm, manufacturing company, retail business, or accounting firm with Ubuntu.

Because Windows 7 just works better? I respect open source, but as far as ease of use, Windows 7 seems splendiferous right now.
