Unhappy Asking for local help (PS2)

Does anyone still have the plastic wrappings for his/her PS2? (blue plastic bags that covers up the components inside the box) If you do please let me take them over your hands. I just bought a PS2 a week ago and today Sony drop the price by $100. So I plan to return the machine if possible.

If anyone plans to buy a PS2 in the next few days, please let me know if you're willing to part with those plastic wrappings.

Thank you.

Thumbs up

Hey, that's cool! It's rare for a vendor to take care of business like that. I was going to check my box when I got home, but...

Check out Virtua Fighter 4 if you like fighting games. It freakin' rules!

HAHAHAHAHA YEAH

I remember a few months ago when everyone was like "NO sony is never going to drop the price it would ruin the DVD player market blah blah blah"

But I waited like a good consumer.

...and now i'm gonna be 100 dollars richer.

to the naysayers: HA

Jesus I was about to break down too. Every single person i know (Even The poor ones) have PS2. I was feeling pretty left out....

microsoft has not announced price cuts on the X-box. it will probably be a while, and they are already losing money on each unit sold.

i hear that the x-box is not doing so hot compared to the PS2. sure, the graphics might be better, but sony has always had the best and biggest selection of games. PS2 is awesome. everyone needs to have one, especially now.

The story goes that Microsquish was expected to announce the price drop on the (already being sold at a loss) XBox at the big E3 right here in LA. All the time Sony stated clearly they were not going to drop the price of the (being sold at a profit) PS2. A day or two before Microsquish announced the price drop in front of the media at E3, Sony stole there thunder and publicly announced the price drop on the PS2. Needless to say Microsquish was pretty pissed. But in the end we all benefit (but only if we do not allow Microsquish to control the game console market like they are trying to.

More detail of the stories for those that may wanna know:

Sony has so far sold more than 8 million PS2 in North America alone. And it's selling about 80k units per month(can't remember the duration unit, but it's amazing) with Xbox and GamCube moving their units around 60k put together. I could be off on the number since I read the articles a few weeks back, but will confirm this later.

Another news(or old news) is that Sony found ways to save money on producing the Emotion Engine chip, thus the price cut. Sony has always lost money on PS units and made money back with software. That's something the big N and the big M cannot do, since their software line up are relatively scarce.

Here's a prediction: Once the online console gaming starts up, expect Microsoft to rebate the whole Xbox unit when you sign up for a 2+ year contract with MSN... or something.

p.s. oops, this is a msg board about cars, isn't it? Well, in that case, I just picked up Gran Turismo 3 for $17. I'll be playing the game using a WRX STi. ^^;

well, that may be Microsoft's original planned date to drop the price. But when Sony dropped the ball on Tuesday (5/14/2002), it countered immediately the day after. This is war, baby, and I love it!

h2o: Sony dropped price on their OEM accessories (controller and memory cards are down $10). But Logitech is a independent manufacturer so... it may adjust the price of the said steering wheel according to market price, though.

Default some numbers...

North American Sales, as of March 2002:

PS2: 8.3 million units sold (granted, one year headstart), averaging 65,000 units per week.

XBox: 1.4 million units sold, averaging 30,000 units per week.

GameCube: 1.3 million units sold, averaging 30,000 units/wk.

So... PS2 kicks ass? Anyone second that? If you think the PS2 kicks ass, gimme a hell yea? The PS2 layeth a smacketh down on all other jabronis? Okay, I'll stop.

WRC is pretty fun. It's really hard to play with the controller and it has really long load times. But all of the courses are from the WRC season so its like pretty realistic track wise i guess. Graphics could be better and the sound isnt that great. Like 3 songs, i just turn off the music. I'd say rent it first and find a wheel.

I think the Xbox is dying because it didnt really catch on in Japan. Didn't the Japanese invent the video game?

I know you're kidding.

But to clarify, Japan did not invent videogames. What Japan, or Nintendo, rather, did was to make playing videogames worthwhile by giving objective to the game other than just scoring the highest points. That was something Atari failed at, thus the crash in early 1980s.

Here's a link about the history of videogames. I don't play games a whole lot, but I sure love reading about them:
