here are more shots of my ikea flaps all done and permanently mounted. i might take off the rears to further round the corners, not too sure. being that i live in so. cal, the chances of them freezing/cracking are pretty minute. the speedclips are very secure and i did the 'drill method' for the third clip/mount inside the rear wheel wells.

+1 for getting the flaps a little more rounded bottome edge...

being in socal you may not ever need it, but i would drill another hole for the fronts as well, the snow tore my fronts off because i only had the two mounting points, but i dont think they are going anywhere with a third hole

Maybe I'll round them out a little. In person it doesnt look to bad but looking at the pics on the outback and on dirtyimpreza I see the squareness you speak of.

i was wondering if you can give me the measurement of the distance from the rear bumper to the bottom of your mud flap and same with your side skirt, the bottom of the side skirt to tbe bottom of the mud flap. thank you.

from the ground my fronts are 5 inches up, my rears are 6 up....

the bumper and skirts are hard to be accurate, but as best i can tell, about 3 inches down in the skirt... and about 4.5 down from the bumper

thats for a stock height 06 wrx

also you want to take into account how much weight is usually in the car, if you often have lots of people, make them shorter, or risk them draging

<<<< made his first flaps too long and had to listen to them drag for 3 months while i was away at school

here is a DIY write up i did on another forum for these:

How to make your own IKEA mudflaps

Quantity: 2 - IKEA cutting boards (comes in pack of 2 but they come with one black and one transparent grey/black)
Cost: $1.99 per pack

Quantity: 10 - 1/4" x 1 1/4" Hex Bolts (20 tpi)
Cost: $0.11 per bolt

Quantity: 10 - 1/4" x 1 1/4" Fender Washer
Cost: $0.18 per washer

Quantity: 10 - 1/4" Speed Nut Clips (20 tpi)
Cost: $0.92

Quantity: 1 - Nylon Spacers 1/2" x .375 x 5/8" (comes in pack of 2)
Cost: $0.92

Estimated total cost: $16.50

Optional: 1 can of rubberized undercoating to spray on bolts/washers $4.99 and up.

Below are a few cell phone pix I took today at Lowes to help you find the clips noted above. Please note Home Depot did not have the clips, but they did have the bolts and washers.

Find the Hardware Aisle and look for the drawers of bolts/fittings, it will look like this (at Lowes):

Open the drawer labeled J7 and keep your fingers crossed they have enough clips, in my case, I cleaned them out (the $0.92 ones):

This next pic shows all of the pieces needed to build your own mud flaps (only showing two baggies of the clips):

These next pictures show the nylon spacers you can use to give the flaps some breathing room between them and the car:

I borrowed this pic from 08subiewrx, this shows the cut out mudflaps before drilling the holes:

Here is the final outcome...

Inside of the front, you can see I cut off about 1/2 of the width inside the wheel well, otherwise it would flap/smack fender liner.

Inside of the rear, the third mounting hole cannot be seen in this shot.

Hopefully a few of you guys can benefit from this. Thanks to eminehart for all of the great info in the other thread, and thanks to monkiboy for the template!

with the earlier post about durability mine have been holding up for a long time now...i suggest not to go mudding in them b/c the mud will cling and it has cracked one of mine inbetween the bolts but nothing major...other then that i've been offroading with them and everyday driving....i have to redo the rear ones b/c i had them way to low and i hit a dip kinda fast and it torn one but other then that they have held up very nice and i will deff keep doing this

I replaced my aging rally armors' with DIY ikea's. I used the thicker cutting board - very similar in thickness to the RA's:

Rear before:

Rear after:

Front:
